Samsung is rolling out January 2023 security update for Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US for Verizon-locked variants. This new firmware update installs the most up-to-date Android security patches on your device. Besides Verizon, other US carriers may rollout January patch soon.

Update: Jan.14// After Verizon, T-Mobile has now released the January 2023 security update for the Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra smartphones in the US. The latest release can be identified via PDA version number ending BWA2.

When it comes to identification, consumers having Verizon-locked Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra can identify the January 2023 firmware update via software versions: S901USQS2BVL4, S906USQS2BVL4 and S908USQS2BVL4, respectively.

Yesterday, the US carrier-unlocked Galaxy S22 series devices received the latest January patch update. At the same time, the Galaxy Note 20 series smartphones have also started upgrading to the most up-to-date Android security patch in the United States.

Samsung Galaxy S22

Talking about the Galaxy S21, the lineup grabbed the January update in the European market, whereas the company is yet to expand its availability for the US consumers. As of now, the Galaxy S20 series devices are yet to pick up their January patch among others.

How to update// You have to open your device’s system Settings, then scroll down until the option entitled Software update. Tap it then the user interface will show you another tab namely Download and install.

What’s inside Jan update?

As per Samsung’s security patch bulletin, the January patch update includes fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities, which includes 52 high leveled CVEs from Google and about 20 SVEs from the phone vendor.

Samsung takes Galaxy’s security and privacy quite seriously! Without missing its routine, Samsung today published the May 2024 schedule, revealing which Galaxy devices are eligible for Monthly and Quarterly software updates.

The details of Galaxy’s May 2024 security update have also been published earlier today. At the same time, Samsung uploaded the revised timeline, pledging regular software updates for a number of Galaxy phones and tablets.

The South Korean tech giant offers monthly, quarterly, and biannual security updates. These releases bring patches for Android OS-related security issues released by Google, as well as, patches for Samsung-specific security issues.

Samsung reiterated that devices launched in 2019 or later will get regular firmware updates for a minimum of four years following their global launch, while select newer devices will receive up to seven years of security updates.

Samsung reveals May 2024 security update fixes 45 vulnerabilities

Samsung detailed its May 2024 security update, rolling out to Galaxy devices in the next few weeks. The company revealed that 45 vulnerabilities in Galaxy phones and tablets will be addressed. This means the May firmware must be installed on your Galaxy device.

The May 2024 security update hasn’t started rolling out to Samsung Galaxy devices. This is due to the company’s One UI 6.1 rollout phases, which have taken place in certain markets over the past week. Galaxy S22’s rollout also been halted due to touchscreen failure issue.

Samsung disclosed May 2024 security patch includes fixes for 45 security vulnerabilities, with 33 being provided by Google. The company also divided the vulnerabilities into their category, citing 33 vulnerabilities as ‘Critical,’ while 26 are classified as ‘High’ in severity.
