Global smartphone sales declined below 100 million, 2nd time in 10 years
According to the Counterpoint Research report, the global monthly smartphone sales fell below 100 million for the second time in 10 years. The monthly report for May 2022 shows that the global smartphone market sold 96 million units, down 4% month-on-month and 10% year-on-year.
Notably, this is the second consecutive month-on-month decline and the 11th consecutive month of year-on-year declines. In the year 2022, it seems that mobile phones will not be able to sell.
In the meantime, Counterpoint Research also reveals that even after the fast recovery after the first wave of the pandemic in 2020, the smartphone market still hasn’t reached pre-pandemic levels. Over the past 2021, the smartphone market has not been optimistic due to tight supplies and the continuing impact of the new crown pandemic.
With the timing of 2022, things are not looking up for the smartphone market, which has been hit by a slump in demand due to various factors including inflation.t is an indisputable fact that overall smartphone sales are weak, but the decline in smartphone shipments in the second half of the year could improve.
As per the Counterpoint Macro Index, the negative impact is expected to continue into the summer, but will gradually improve in the second half of the year. In addition, relevant agencies said that the resistance of the mobile phone industry is expected to weaken in the second half of 2022, but the growth of the smartphone industry is expected to rebound to only 5% in 2023.
