Right now, Samsung is giving the best possible software updates support to its consumers, even better than Google. Starting February 9, flagship Samsung Galaxy devices became eligible for Four generations of Android/One UI and Five years of security updates.
Last February, the Korean phone maker announced that all the Galaxy devices launched in/after 2019 will have four years of regular software updates support. Well, taking a big step, Samsung further expanded Galaxy devices’ software lifecycle up to five years.
At the Galaxy Unpacked February 2022, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S22 flagship smartphone lineup, featuring the latest Android 12-based One UI 4.1 out of the box. During the event, the company officially revealed that select flagship and mid-range Galaxy A phones will be compatible of:
- Four generations of Android/One UI upgrades
- Five years of regular security updates
Since the Galaxy S22 and Tab S8 series are in Samsung’s priority for the new software update policy, the last year’s Galaxy S21 and third-gen foldables are not behind. At the same time, the Galaxy A series devices Galaxy A33, A53, and A73 will also get five years of security updates.

Verizon rolls out Android 13 update for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4 in the US [One UI 5.0]
Verizon-locked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones have begun installing the latest Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update in the United States. This update uncovers a handful of new features and improvements to the new foldable devices as well as brings a new user interface for a fresh look.
Aside from the major changes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 Android 13 update also installs the November 2022 Android security patch for Verizon customers. It resolves dozens of privacy and security-related issues and vulnerabilities.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4:
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are two of the latest Samsung foldable smartphones that arrive with many improvements over their predecessors. The device was launched with the Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1 software that has some iconic features like Taskbar.
Furthermore, the Android 13 is the first major software update for these foldables. And since they are eligible for Samsung’s new software update, they will receive three generations of Android OS upgrades.
Android 13 One UI 5.0:
The Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update brings lots of new features including Notification permission, Per-app languages, 16 Color Palette options, revamped Wallpaper and Style section, multiple Lock Screen customization capabilities, and more.
It further adds three new Settings – Connected devices, Modes and Routines, and Privacy and security, new Camera Watermark feature, improved Single Take, the ability to disable RAM Plus, rebuilt Quick Settings Panel and Notification Panel, and others.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE users in Europe can now install Android 13 One UI 5.0 update
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G smartphone users in Europe are now getting access to the major Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update. The update brings a slew of new features, improvements, and user interface changes for the devices.
Alongside, it installs the November 2022 Android security patch that addresses dozens of privacy and security-affiliated issues and vulnerabilities. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Android 13 One UI 5.0 update bears a One UI build version G780GXXU3DVK5 in Europe.
Android 13 One UI 5.0 features:
First of all, the One UI 5.0 upgrade rebuilds the look of your device through notable user interface changes. It brings new and bolder app icons, smoother animations, revamped Notification panel and Quick Settings Panel, and more.
As far as the features are concerned, you will get 16 Color Palettes and basic color options to theme your phone, Notification permission, Per-app language, the ability to turn off RAM Plus, and Lockdown mode, Maintainance mode, and others.
There are three new Settings menus including Connected devices, Modes and Routines and Security and Privacy, Stack widgets feature for the Home screen, and new multitasking gestures to use Split-screen and Pop-up view with ease.
Other than these, the Samsung Camera app is getting notable functions like Picture Watermark, improved Single Take, Help guide in Pro mode, and more. Whereas the Gallery app is gaining new Extract text from images feature, Customize albums, new and revamped editing tools, and more.

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5 grabs December 2022 update in the US
Verizon is releasing a December 2022 software update for Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 customers in the US. This update slightly improves the performance of these wearables in order to maintain the user experience.
Aside from these, the update also aims to enhance your smartwatch’s system stability so that you can get uninterrupted and seamless functionality over your device. Besides these, the changelog doesn’t mention anything, however, you might notice some changes after installing the update.
Furthermore, the Verizon-locked Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 customers are gaining the December 2022 update with the following Obe UI build versions –

To check and download this update, go to the Galaxy wearable app on a connected Android phone and navigate to Watch settings >> Watch software update. On the Home tab, go to Watch software update >> Download and install.
