Samsung Galaxy A34 and A54 grab One UI 8.5 official version – Expanding now
Samsung is wrapping up the One UI 8.5 Beta Program for the Galaxy A34 and A54 5G and starting the rollout of the official update. Initially released in South Korea, the update should be made available to Global users within a week.
As spotted by Alfaturk, Samsung kicked off the One UI 8.5 official rollout to the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G in South Korea; the build versions are A546SKSUGFZE2 and A346NKSUEFZE6, respectively.
Update [June 4, 2026]
- As expected, Samsung has started the Global rollout of One UI 8.5 FZE9 update for the Galaxy A54 smartphone, starting in Europe. Users of Galaxy A34 should have been grabbing the update as well; check Settings now.
Samsung started a Beta testing program in South Korea and rolled out two Beta builds. Global users, specifically in the US, have received the May 2026 security patch. That said, the foundation is set; just the expansion is left.
The update is landing on the models running Beta firmware first. A broader rollout would soon start in Samsung’s home ground. It’s the same pattern the company has just repeated for the Galaxy A35 and A55 in India.
While top-tier flagships hog the spotlight, Samsung hasn’t forgotten the A34 and A54. The upgrade introduces a sleek, overhauled frosted glass Quick Panel that finally lets you resize and reorganize your setting toggles without rigid grid restrictions.
On the camera front, expect much-needed stability enhancements alongside the new Direct Voicemail feature, which seamlessly leverages Samsung’s native TTS engine.
The software feels noticeably snappy, delivering fluid animations and crucial bug fixes for Bluetooth auto-scan issues. Have you spotted the OTA notification yet?
Open Settings, followed by Software update, and tap Download and install. For Beta testers, the firmware size is small, but it would be way bigger for those getting it on One UI 8.0.

Samsung removes manual toggle for Lockdown Mode in One UI 9
Samsung is changing how Lockdown mode works in its new One UI 9. The company is making it easier to use and stronger in terms of security by removing its toggle.
In One UI 8.5, Lockdown mode was a separate option in the power menu. Users had to long-press the power button, open the power menu, and then tap Lockdown mode.
When it was turned on, the phone would lock fully. It would also turn off fingerprint and face unlock, hide lock screen notifications, and disable Smart Lock. To unlock the phone again, users needed a PIN or password. The same PIN was also needed to turn off or restart the phone.
Now, in One UI 9 beta, Samsung has removed this manual Lockdown mode button. There is no longer a separate option to tap. Instead, Lockdown mode is now part of the power menu itself.

One UI
When users open the power menu in One UI 9, the phone automatically goes into a locked state. This means biometric unlock, like fingerprint and face recognition, stops working right away. The phone can only be unlocked using a PIN or password.
The big changes are in what happens after closing the power menu. Earlier, users would return to the app they were using. Now, the phone goes straight to the lock screen instead. This adds more protection and reduces the chances of unwanted access.
Even restarting or switching off the phone now needs a PIN or password. This stops anyone from forcing the phone to power down or restart without permission. With One UI 9, Samsung is making Lockdown mode simple but powerful.
Currently, the One UI 9 Beta Program is live for the Galaxy S26 series. Users of this series of devices can check out this new change.

Older Samsung devices showing hidden Galaxy AI options in settings
Samsung users have reported an unusual issue on older Galaxy devices running the latest One UI 8.5 software. Some Galaxy AI features that are not officially available on these phones are appearing in the settings menu, causing confusion among users.
A user shared a video recorded on a Galaxy Z Flip 5 showing Galaxy AI features such as Health Assist and Audio Eraser. Health Assist occasionally appears under Galaxy AI Personal settings, while Audio Eraser can be seen inside the Galaxy AI section of Secure Folder.
However, these features are not actually usable. Users report that the options briefly appear in the settings menu but disappear when they try to access them. As a result, it feels like the features are installed on the device, but they remain unavailable.
A Samsung community moderator replied to the report and explained that a Health Assist visibility issue on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has been fixed in the latest Samsung Health app update, version 6.32.
Samsung advised users to check whether they are using the latest version of Samsung Health. The company also suggested updating the app through the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store if necessary.
While Samsung’s response addresses the Health Assist issue, it does not fully explain why unsupported Galaxy AI features, like Audio Eraser, continue to appear on some older devices. This cause confuse; these features may exist in the software but are not enabled for users.
The company says users who continue to experience problems after updating Samsung Health should contact support through the Samsung Health app. They may be asked to provide their Samsung Members ID and details of their report. Stay tuned for more information.

Samsung’s latest Camera upgrade is something you’ll hear
Samsung Camera app in One UI 8.5 has gained something you will hear while using it. The latest update isn’t limited to new features and UI tweaks. It also focuses on minor aspects to bring the photography experience to perfection.
This time, Samsung is making a camera upgrade with One UI 8.5, which has nothing to do with megapixels, zoom capabilities, or AI. Instead, it is targeting something users interact with every time they take a photo: the shutter sound.
After years of covering Samsung, we’ve learned that the best UX improvements are often the ones people don’t immediately notice, yet feel every single day. That’s exactly what Samsung appears to be doing with One UI 8.5.
One UI 8.5 tweaks Samsung Camera shutter sound
One UI 8.5 introduces a completely new shutter sound designed to deliver a more sophisticated shooting experience. The updated sound combines a fast shutter response with deeper bass tones that resemble the feel of a DSLR camera.
The addition of richer bass tones should also help Galaxy devices feel more refined, moving away from the artificial sounds commonly associated with smartphone cameras.
The new shutter sound was developed after considering user feedback regarding the existing camera sound. Samsung worked to reduce the sharpness of the previous audio profile and create something that feels more natural and sophisticated.
This is exactly the kind of detail that demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to Galaxy software refinement. Most users never file feature requests for shutter sounds, yet many notice when something feels slightly off.
At SammyFans, we’ve always appreciated Samsung’s willingness to polish the small things. Those micro-improvements often have the biggest impact on day-to-day usability. That level of attention is what separates good software from great software.
