Samsung is a major contributor to the foldable smartphone market. So far, the company has introduced 4 generations of its Fold and Flip lineup. Meanwhile, Samsung is now taking a step further to introduce a slidable display for PCs.

On September 27, Intel held its Innovation 2022 Day event where it introduced the 13th-generation Intel Core processors for desktops. At the same event, Intel has Samsung Display’s CEO – JS Choi to show off a prototype of the world’s first 17-inch slidable display for PCs.

This working prototype showcased by Samsung featured an unmoving image that shows Samsung Display + Intel written on it. Meanwhile, Samsung Display CEO said, it is specifically created for computers with tablet-like form factors, such as the Microsoft Surface Go 3.

Besides these, the company does not reveal anything about this display so it’s hard to judge it at this moment. The screen resolution, aspect ratio, brightness, and other features are yet to be known. Even Samsung did not tell how durable this display is.

A notable part is that Samsung calls it a Slidable display instead of an Expandable screen, which suggets that the Korean company wants to differentiate its product from others.

Another highlighting part that Samsung Display’s CEO said with the introduction of a slidable display is “foldable is gone”. However, it remains to be seen if the company will launch products that actually feature this technology and if it will launch then when?
