As promised, Samsung held the 6th Samsung Security Tech Forum (SSTF) online on 23 August. The event was organized under the theme “Trust with Samsung: Across All Your Experience”. In this event, the company shares Samsung’s latest security technologies.

In order to expand the information security technology base and develop talent, the “Samsung Security Technology Forum” event is organized by Samsung Electronics every year since 2017.

About 6th Samsung Security Tech Forum:

Firstly, the President of Samsung Research Lab Seung Hyun Joon welcomed everyone by saying, “Samsung Electronics always puts the highest priority on customer security and personal information protection. We are building a foundation of trust for our products.”

After that, he said that build a secure foundation with a hardware root of trust, and use automated tools and techniques to eliminate security vulnerabilities and create a seamless and seamless integration into various Internet of Things (IoT) devices to provide a secure user experience.

Hwang Yong-ho, head of Samsung’s research security and privacy team, delivered a keynote speech, introducing Samsung Electronics’ efforts to protect users’ personal information based on powerful security technologies, and highlighting the security and safety of Samsung Electronics’ website.

Georgia Institute of Technology Prof. Daniel Jenkin introduced speculative execution attacks such as Specter and Meltdown and web browser-based side-channel attacks. Side Channel Attack method in computer security is based on physical acquisition process information, such as timing information, power consumption, emitted electromagnetic waves, etc., rather than the design flaws of a protocol or algorithm in computer security.

Georgetown University’s Prof. Mutu Benakita Subramaniam described secure multi-party computation and zero-knowledge proofs related to Blockchain. Zero-knowledge proof means the other party verifier that knows the information without revealing the secret information that only he has.

Wei Dong, Trend Manager at Microsoft Research Institute, shared program analysis techniques and used Intel Processor Trace to find bugs in system code.

Professor Jihoon Kang of the Korea Academy of Science and Technology formally verified the core kernel of the operating system. He gave lectures on the problems and research materials that emerged in research.

Formal Verification is a technique that uses rigorous mathematical techniques to prove or disprove the correctness of an expected algorithm by checking whether a written program performs the desired function and necessarily terminates.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is world’s best-selling Android phone

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the world’s best-selling Android phone. Counterpoint Research published a new report, revealing the share of Global Top-10 Best-selling smartphones in Q1 2024.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max tagged as the world’s best-selling smartphone in the first quarter. Second, third, and fourth ranks were also seized by Apple handsets: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 14, respectively.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra is the fifth most-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2024. It makes the S24 Ultra the world’s best-selling phone from the Android portfolio as other above rankers powered by iOS.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra secured 1.9% of the market share despite the shipments were started in late January. Beyond that, Samsung’s Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A54 smartphones ranked sixth and seventh best-selling phones.

Samsung launches Australia-themed Fortnite map, competition

Samsung Fortnite Clash of Commuters

Samsung announced Clash of Commuters on Fortnite in Australia. This new experience features Australian icons from the humble Bin Chicken to a Sydney train to let gamers play a uniquely Australian and public transport-inspired map in Fortnite Creative.

Players can also win Samsung swag IRL by participating in the Clash of Commuters until May 30. To be a winner, gamers have to defend an Aussie public bus across 5 checkpoints as it meanders through a dystopian commute, complete with bin chickens, servos, and caffeine-starved commuters.

Samsung’s new Clash of Commuters map enables players to experience an all-new Fortnite Creative island. It also allows them to defend the very thing that they commonly game on. Pay attention, 44% of Aussie gamers admit they game while commuting to pass the time.

Activation opening times:

  • Parramatta Square, NSW: 4 to 8 May, 11am to 7pm daily
  • Southern Cross Station, VIC: 11 May to 15 May, 11am to 7pm daily

The player who completes all five rounds of the Clash of Commuters campaign in the shortest amount of time (The Shortest Haul) will be eligible to win a Samsung gaming pack worth over $8,000, which includes a 55” OLED TV, Odyssey OLED G9 Monitor, Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

Samsung tasked force to finalize HBM deal with Nvidia

Samsung formed a team for a billions-of-dollars HBM supply deal with Nvidia. The company is putting efforts into winning the contract from the global artificial intelligence semiconductor giant to beat the HBM market leader SK Hynix.

According to KEDGlobal, Samsung made a task force to finalize its HBM deal with Nvidia. The team comprises about 100 excellent engineers, who have been working to improve manufacturing yields and quality with the first aim to pass Nvidia’s tests.

“Samsung aims to log a high market share by quickly increasing supply to Nvidia,” said one of the sources. “It is expected to speed up the supply from the third quarter.”

Previously, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang asked Samsung Elec to increase the yields and quality of 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E chips for supply. It’s worth noting that HBM3E is the world’s best-performing DRAM chip for AI applications.

36Gb 12-layer HBM

The South Korean tech giant has been focussing on the 36Gb 12-layer HBM3E model. Samsung finished the development of HBM3E in February 2024 and aiming to pass the quality test conducted by Nvidia this month.

To meet Nvidia’s demand, the company has secured production lines already to increase output. The 12-layer HBM3E improves AI learning speed by 34% on average compared to the 8-layer product.
