One UI 4.0 Tip: How to use Emergency mode – Galaxy S21
Samsung is working hard to provide the One UI 4 beta update for its high-end devices. As the company has already released Android 12 based One UI 4 beta 2 for the Galaxy S21 series. In addition to this, a recent report claims that the next One UI 4 Beta might be released in the coming week, maybe tomorrow. However, in this article, we are talking about the Emergency mode of One UI 4.0.
What is an Emergency mode?
Samsung’s Emergency mode enables you to extend your device’s standby time when you are in an emergency situation and you want your device to conserve power for as long as possible.
When this mode is activated, the screen’s brightness will decrease and some of the device’s functionality will be limited in order to conserve your battery’s charge. The home screen will be changed to a black theme to reduce battery consumption.
You will be able to use the Phone app to make a call to a specified contact and also to make emergency calls. You can also turn on the flash, sound alarms and send your location information to others in a message.

How to enable it?
Emergency mode
- Use Emergency mode to access helpful emergency features and conserve your
device’s power during an emergency situation.
To save battery power, Emergency mode:
- Restricts application usage to only essential applications and those you select.
- Turns off connectivity features and Mobile data when the screen is off.
Activate Emergency mode
To activate Emergency mode:
- Press and hold the Side and Volume down keys at the same time.
- Tap Emergency mode.
- Tap Turn on.
Note: When accessing for the first time, read and accept the terms and conditions.
Emergency mode features
While in Emergency mode, only the following apps and features are available on the
Home screen. Options may vary by carrier.
- Estimated battery life: Displays estimated remaining battery charge time based on current battery charge and usage.
- Flashlight: Use the device’s flash as a steady source of light.
- Emergency alarm: Sound an audible siren.
- Phone: Launch the call screen.
- Share/Message my location: Send your location information to your emergency contacts.
- Internet: Launch the web browser.
- Chrome: Launch the Google web browser.
- Emergency call: Dial the emergency telephone number (for example, 911). This kind of call can be made even without activated service.
More options
- Turn off Emergency mode: Disable Emergency mode and return to standard mode.
- Edit: Add or remove apps from the screen.
- Emergency contacts: Manage your medical profile and ICE (In Case of Emergency) group contacts.
- Settings: Configure the available settings. Only a limited number of settings are
enabled in Emergency mode

When the emergency mode is turned off, the device returns to standard mode.
- Tap More options
- Tap Turn off Emergency mode.

Photos, videos, and files stored in Secure Folder won’t be accessible in regular apps. If you need them, you have to access the Secure Folder – authentication required. It takes the security and user privacy to a whole new level and the data is secured by Samsung on-device.
Secure Folder can keep your most private data such as calendar schedules and contact info, as well as notes, photos, videos, files, and even apps. You can even encrypt the Secure Folder to keep your apps and data even more locked down until the next time you open the folder.
You can find Secure Folder in your apps.
The first time you open it, you’ll have to set your lock type to either a PIN, pattern, or password, with fingerprint authentication can be enabled as well. Anything you create within the Secure Folder will be automatically stored here, but you can also move data here at any time.
For instance, if you want to keep a copy of your driver’s license, you can take a photo of it using the Camera app within Secure Folder, or you can pick a photo in your Gallery, tap the options menu (the three dots) and then select ‘Move to Secure Folder.’

How to use the Motion Photo feature?
- Launch the Camera app
- Enable the Motion Photo feature by tapping on its icon.
- Click the shutter button as usual to take a photo
- Visit the Gallery and select your photo that has been successfully taken.
- Tap ‘View Motion Photo’ to explore the frames.
- Choose the best image in Motion Photo and apply ‘Quick Crop’.

The Intelligent Optimization feature allows users to adjust how their photos are processed. Whether capturing everyday moments or professional shots, the Intelligent Optimization feature in One UI 6.1 ensures that your photos meet your standards with minimal effort.
How to activate it?
You can easily enable the Intelligent Optimization feature by following the steps below.
- Open the Camera app, then Settings.
- Tap on Intelligent Optimization.
- Choose the desired optimization level
- Maximum
- Medium: Speed up capture time by doing less optimization
- Minimum: Take pictures as fast as possible by not optimizing pictures after they are taken.
- Optionally, enable or disable the Scene Optimizer.
This feature allows for customization of photo attributes such as sharpness, contrast, and brightness. For example, selecting the minimum level results in more natural-looking images, while the maximum level increases detail and sharpness, which is ideal for zoomed-in shots. Notably, the quality optimization setting of these levels only affects Photo Mode.
If you enable Scene Optimizer, it automatically optimizes the color and contrast of pictures to make dark scenes look brighter, food looks tastier and landscapes look more vivid.
