Here’s how Samsung taking 5G innovation to next level with vRAN

Published

on

In recent years, leading global operators have selected Samsung as their partners in a journey towards next-generation networks. Samsung is taking the new 5G to the next level with its industry-leading solution for Radio Access Network (vRAN) that will enable mobile operators to deliver greater flexibility, efficiency, and efficiency in network management.

The world’s leading operators opt for Samsung vRAN with its guaranteed quality, reliability, and durability, delivering similar performance to traditional hardware-based hardware. The company’s vRAN is equipped to support mobile operators and businesses with its ability to cover a wide range of applications – from low band to mid-band – as well as its flexibility in terms of supporting solutions for both external and internal spaces.

New technologies have been key to the continuation of Samsung solutions. The emergence of a company vRAN solution can be divided into three different categories, described below.

First-Generation Virtualized RAN

Samsung has successfully upgraded its vCU in 2016 to first be seen on mobile networks. VCU refers to high-level processing functions on the RAN. It is usually installed in one operator network area to reduce the number of supplier pointers, improve network quality and reliability.

The company has conducted numerous trials in  KoreaJapan and the U.S. using its vCU in 2019, it successfully deployed this solution to the first 5G networks worldwide in Korea and the U.S.

Second-Generation Virtualized RAN

Using its decades of experience and long-standing leadership in RAN technology, Samsung developed vDU using its advanced standalone stack to deliver outstanding performance.

Next-Generation Virtualized RAN With Enhanced Capabilities

This year, Samsung has taken vRAN to the next level with its software stack and hardware accelerator, increasing its vRAN capacity to support multiple cells. Hardware is a dedicated device that works with the CPU on a COTS server to improve processing power.

Recently, Samsung completed its first industry-leading vRAN data session over the C-Band spectrum over a live network, using its vRAN-based software that works on COTS servers with a hardware accelerator.

Samsung’s journey to the most powerful vRAN has been long and challenging. But now, as the company has deployed vRAN with the help of C-band Massive MIMO and is conducting a live network trial in the U.S., the future of vRAN looks bright.

Galaxy S24 march 2024 update India

Counterpoint Research published their new report on the US smartphone market. Apple still dominates the US smartphone market, while Samsung managed to score positive growth during the first quarter of the year.

According to the report, Samsung secured a 31% market share in the US in the first quarter of the year. The company achieved this growth from 27% recorded in the first quarter of last year.

Apple managed to keep its 52% share in the market in the same period. Notably, the company neither declined nor grew year over year, however, keeping the performance constant is considered praiseworthy.

Samsung and Apple are the main smartphone vendors in the United States. Thanks to the Galaxy AI induction, the Galaxy S24 flagships helped the company to bolster its market share in the country.

Motorola came third with 9% of the market share in the first quarter, up from 8% last year. Google is next, however, the chart doesn’t mention its market share. Counterpoint’s Maurice said, “Google declined in market share in Q1.”

Pay attention, the US smartphone shipments declined 8% YoY in Q1 2024, the sixth consecutive quarter showing a YoY decline. Sales of low-end shipments declined as carriers pushed for deeper 5G smartphone penetration.
