Samsung Sketch to Image One UI 6.1.1

Samsung introduced Sketch to Image feature with One UI 6.1.1-based Galaxy AI. This crazy feature is currently available on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Samsung could expand it to some older models such as the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung Sketch to Image

Sketch to Image is powered by Samsung Drawing Assistant. It’s a new addition to the Galaxy AI features chart, which debuted in One UI 6.1.1. Using this feature, Galaxy users can transform their simple drawing or sketch into a complete image.

Samsung deployed the functionality into Notes and Gallery applications. You can either use the Notes app to create a completely new image or Gallery to add any object to an already captured or created image. It’s all AI magic and cloud processing gets the work done.

How to works

For instance, you can draw a simple sketch that looks like the Eiffel Tower. After drawing, you will have to choose any of the options: Watercolor, Illustration, Sketch, Pop art, or 3D cartoon. It will help the artificial intelligence to deliver relevant results.

Once done, you have to hit the Generate button featuring 4 stars of AI. It will then upload the file to the cloud for processing and generating images. Samsung won’t save any data used in cloud processing but it’s a must to use the feature as such image generation isn’t available on-device.

How to activate and use

Access the Galaxy AI section in device Settings and turn on Drawing Assist. It activates the Sketch to Image feature in Notes and Gallery. Now, swipe right to get the Edge Panel and tap on the first available function displaying a sketching element and a pen inside icon.

Step 1. Draw something of your choice on the canvas.

Step 2. You can also adjust the transparency of the background screen to draw along the object.

Step 3. Choose a drawing style for the image you want to generate: Watercolor, Illustrations, Sketch, Pop art, and 3D cartoon > Tap Generate.

Step 4. Swipe to the side to review the generated image options. You can copy or save the generated image from the top menu.

Samsung developing China-exclusive Galaxy AI features

Published

on

Samsung is working on a China-specific variant of its Galaxy AI suite. The Mobile division head confirmed to CNBC that the company is developing Galaxy AI specifically for the Chinese market. It comes as an exciting revelation that Galaxy AI will have a market-exclusive iteration too.

China is the world’s biggest smartphone market, but Samsung has a negligible presence there. Samsung faced huge losses after Huawei was sequentially banned by the United States. Emotional sentiments of Chinese citizens pushed Huawei’s growth to multi-fold, rejecting others.

Galaxy S24 series equipped with Galaxy AI significantly boosted Samsung’s market this year. The flagship lineup achieved record-breaking sales in recent years. Hence, the company is looking to perform this AI experiment in the Chinese market to regain its presence.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 with new AI features. The company also announced that it has doubled the target of Galaxy AI installation. By the end of 2024, Samsung plans to install Galaxy AI in 200 million Galaxy devices.

“We are (Samsung is) especially developing and we are going to especially develop our Galaxy AI capabilities for that market (China),” TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile business, told CNBC in Korean via a translator during an interview.

President Roh stated that by making efforts to create mobile AI for China, mobile AI can satisfy what is wanted by Chinese consumers. The company believes that advancement to Galaxy AI will contribute to the recovery it’s going to have in China.

China-specific Galaxy AI development could be done by partnering with local tech and internet firms. Samsung developers should have a deep understanding of the level of technology in China and progress accordingly to gain adequate results by satisfying the consumers.

Samsung Portrait Studio

Samsung announced a new Portrait Studio feature under the Galaxy AI umbrella. The new AI feature allows Galaxy users to generate 3D avatars. The company released a lot of AI stuff with its new foldable smartphones powered by One UI 6.1.1.

Galaxy AI’s Portrait Studio lets Samsung users create different portrait styles such as 3D cartoon or watercolor. It’s also a cloud-based AI feature that requires a network connection and a Samsung Account login. It supports certain image formats and has some limitations.

Samsung’s AI-powered 3D avatar generator supports JPG, HEIC (HEIF), BMP and PNG files. It should be ensured that the background must not be transparent. The company also noted that editing with Generative Portrait results in a resized photo up to 12MP.

Similar to previous Galaxy AI features, a visible watermark is overlaid on the image output upon saving. It is to indicate that the image is generated by Samsung’s Galaxy AI. The accuracy and reliability of the generated output are not guaranteed.

At today’s Unpacked event, many Samsung products went official. It includes Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro, Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra as well as the Galaxy Ring. Besides, One UI 6.1.1 and One UI 6 Watch have many new features for Samsung consumers.
