Samsung shines at iF Design Award 2024 with 75 awards including two golds

Samsung has won 75 awards including two gold at the ‘iF Design Award 2024’, an international design competition held in Germany. Started in 1953, the iF Design Award recognizes excellence in design across nine categories, such as product, package, communication, concept, interior, architecture, service design, user experience (UX), and user interface (UI).

Samsung received 38 awards in the product category, 16 in the UX/UI category, 10 in the concept category, 9 in the communication category, 1 in the package category, and 1 in the service category.

Among the award-winning products, Samsung Electronics received two gold awards for its OLED TV (S95C) and Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition package.

The OLED TV (S95C) features an ultra-slim design that can be mounted close to the wall, enhancing spatial quality and immersion. On the other side, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition package, created in collaboration with the Parisian haute couture house brand Maison Margiela, offers a unique unboxing experience to the customers.

Other notable products that received awards include the Bespoke AI Combo, an all-in-one washer and dryer that allows quick and convenient washing and drying in one step, the Music Frame, a framed speaker that suits various lifestyles, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, foldable phones that maximize the cover screen experience.

In addition to products, Samsung also got awards for its UI and communication design, such as Samsung Now+, an AI-based TV, Q Symphony, and Design Samsung website.

Tae-moon Roh, the president of Samsung Electronics Design Management Center, said, “This is the result of prioritizing design that is faithful to the product’s original function and purpose. Through continuous design innovation, we will provide a meaningful customer experience that harmonizes with consumers’ changing lifestyles.”

Samsung matches Apple for smartphone satisfaction crown in America

Samsung matched Apple in smartphone customer satisfaction in America this year. The Americal Customer Satisfaction Index published its latest analysis. The report says Apple gained 1% in customer satisfaction, while Samsung gained 3%, tying the competition this year.

Samsung America achieved number 1 customer satisfaction among 5G mobile devices in the 2024 ACSI Survey. The Index is based on customer ratings of their own mobile devices and identifies the industry leaders they recognize for excellence in product and service quality.

“We’re proud that the ACSI results show how our customers recognize not only Samsung’s commitment to going above and beyond for them, but also the high quality of our mobile devices” said Mark Williams, Vice President of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America.

Last year, Apple was the sole leader in the customer satisfaction index in America. Samsung’s share jumped by 3% this year, making it similar to Apple’s share of 82%. Both firms now stand on top, with keeping the same performance in the ASCI survey.

For the 2024 survey, ASCI randomly interviewed 12,414 consumers between April 2023 and March 2024. Besides Samsung, Motorola had the highest satisfaction increase. Google and Motorola tied for third with 77/100 with “All Others” earning an average score of 72.

Samsung teases ‘Made for Germany’ free TV streaming!

Samsung launched the “Made for Germany” promotion TV program for residents in Germany. The company will be opening new TV opportunities in the country on July 1st. Thanks to the abolition of ancillary costs, Tenants will be allowed to choose which TV provider they want to use.

Under the “Made for Germany” TV promo, Samsung will offer an attractive streaming service for free. By purchasing a high-quality promotional Samsung device, customers will get up to 24 months of free access to first-class live TV and streaming content.

Those who choose a promotional device by July 31 will receive Telekom’s streaming program with Magenta TV and in some cases even Netflix and Disney+, for up to 24 months free of charge on top, depending on the promotional model.

Curtains up for the “Made for Germany” promotional devices: The Samsung 98-inch devices, such as the QN990C2, Q80C3, and the 2023 and 2024 QN90C/D.

Those who choose the QN990C, Q80C, or QN90C/D will also receive the Magenta TV offer including Disney+ and Netflix free of charge for 24 months.

There are RTL+ Max and Sportworld for 12 months each, 12 rental films via Maxdome, HD+/Sat and waipu.tv for 6 months, and Zattoo and qobuz for 3 months.

Samsung’s storm busted Apple in India’s premium smartphone market

IDC recently published its report on India’s various smartphone segments. In particular, the premium smartphone market in India witnessed Samsung’s storm in the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, Apple managed to survive but the margin was negligible.

According to IDC, Apple’s share declined YoY to 45%, while Samsung was a close second with a 44% share. The Galaxy maker had just 16% market share in the premium smartphone segment a year back. This rapid growth stunned the iPhone’s lead in India.

IDC analysts ranged premium segment between cost $600<$800. Models costing between was 2% overall shipments and declined by 21% in unit terms. During the first three months of 2024, key models were the iPhone 13, Galaxy S23FE/S23, iPhone 12 and OnePlus12.

The report mentions that India’s smartphone market shipped 34 million units in 1Q24. The country’s smartphone market grew 11.5% year-over-year, the third consecutive quarter in terms of growth. However, the super-premium segment is still dominated by Apple iPhones.

“Several new launches across multiple price segments happened during the quarter, coupled with increased promotional activities, particularly around premium offerings. Brands continued their focus on microfinancing schemes to drive affordability. eTailers organized several sales events and offered discounts on models nearing their end-of-life (EOL), resulting in increased demand and lean inventory,” said Upasana Joshi, Senior Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India.
