Samsung Galaxy S20 starts grabbing April 2023 security update

Samsung Galaxy S20 series starts getting the April 2023 security update in select markets. The company is bringing the latest Android patches, which fix Smart Suggestions and Exynos modem flaws to the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Utra flagships.
As part of the initial rollout, Samsung has released the Galaxy S20 lineup’s April 2023 security update in Brazil, Bolivia, and Trinidad and Tobago. However, the company won’t make you wait much longer for the new patch if you’ve not received it yet.
Software Versions:
- Galaxy S20 LTE/5G – G980FXXSGHWCF / G981BXXSGHWCF
- Galaxy S20 Plus LTE/5G – G985FXXSGHWCF / G986BXXSGHWCF
- Galaxy S20 Ultra5G – G988BXXSGHWCF
Recently, Samsung published the April 2023 patch details, promising fixes for a number of CVEs along with flaws related to One UI’s Smart Suggestions function and Exynos modem (which was earlier discovered by Google’s Project Zero team).
April patch includes fixes for SVE-2022-3004 (CVE-2023-21473), SVE-2022-3001 (CVE-2023-21472) and SVE-2022-2755 (CVE-2023-21467). These vulnerabilities may have affected your device, letting a physical attacker execute arbitrary code in the bootloader.
No more OS upgrades!
In 2020, the South Korean tech giant unveiled the Galaxy S20 series, pre-equipped with the Android 10-based One UI 2.1 operating system. The company promised three major OS upgrades to S20 users, which it fulfilled with the Android 13-based One UI 5.0.
Nowadays, the company offers up to four OS upgrades to Galaxy A and Galaxy M series smartphones. The recently released Galaxy A54, A34, and M54 devices have extended software support compared to your premium Galaxy S20 smartphone.
Meanwhile, Samsung will continue to support the Galaxy S20 series for another year with new security patches on a regular basis. The S20 trio is eligible for four years of regular security updates so consumers can keep their phones longer without compromising reliability.

Samsung has pushed a fresh update with the May 2025 security patch for Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 smartphone users. The update is currently rolling out for users in Korea, and the company will soon make it available for all models.
Users of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones are getting the May 2025 security update with One UI build versions F956NKSS2BYDD and F741NKSS2BYDD, respectively. It is an initial rollout, so it may take some hours or days to reach all models.
Following One UI 7 resumes with the April patch, this is the first software update Samsung is rolling out for Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 users. This new software makes the device’s features more stable and secure.
May 2025 security patch brings important fixes to improve the safety of Galaxy devices. The update addresses 58 high-level security issues found by Google that affect all Android phones. In addition, Samsung fixed 20 more problems specific to Galaxy devices, including 13 that were explained in detail. These focus on One UI to make Galaxy phones more secure.
The installation package size of this update is around 425 MB. You can download the update via Settings >> Software Update >> Download and install. If you have received the update, install it now to enjoy enhanced features.
One UI 8 for Galaxy Z Flip 6, Fold 6
Samsung has already started One UI 8 internal testing for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, along with the Galaxy S25 smartphones. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone was also spotted running Android 16 on the Geekbench platform, scoring 1749 and 3941 points in single-core and multi-core tests. It is expected that Samsung will start the One UI 8 Beta Program in late May 2025 or early June 2025.

Samsung Galaxy S24 gets May 2025 patch – First update after One UI 7 (Android 15)

The May 2025 security update is starting to roll out to the Galaxy S24 series. It’s the first official firmware update after Samsung deployed the Stable One UI 7. Global users, including in the US, should expect the OTA within a week.
Samsung’s BYDF update installs the latest May 2025 security patches on Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. Unlike the S25 series, it’s not a Seamless Update, so you will have to face a little more downtime during installation.
The update is available at different carriers in South Korea. A notification for the OTA would appear on your device, while you can manually speed up the process by fetching the update through the Software update section under Settings.
Firmware versions:
- Galaxy S24 – S921NKSS4BYDF
- S24 Plus – S926NKSS4BYDF
- S24 Ultra – S928NKSS4BYDF
One UI 7-based security patch
The changelog suggests the release focuses on security improvements. Additional enhancements for system stability and app functioning are included. But what makes it more meaningful is its arrival after the recent major upgrade.
Last month, Samsung concluded the Beta Program and released the Stable One UI 7 update. The major OTA has reportedly caused excessive battery drain problems. Some users also found “very minor” flaws across the operating system.
The May 2025 software update should address the errors causing excessive battery consumption. System animations and functional stability should also be enhanced to deliver a better overall user experience.
May patch includes fixes for 58 CVEs from Google and 20 from Samsung.
