Brazil earlier punished Apple for selling iPhones without a charger (charging adapter) in the retail box and now, a Brazilian court fined the iPhone maker for the same reason.

According to Reuters, a court in the state of São Paulo, Brazil cited that Apple is forcing citizens to purchase a compatible charger (adapter) as an additional accessory by not shipping it with the iPhone.

The court’s judge said – “what Apple does is a “tie-in sale” since there are consumers who don’t have a compatible power adapter at home and are forced to buy a new one.”

The US tech giant said that it has stopped shipping charging adapters out of the box with iPhones to lessen carbon emissions and electronic waste, however, the court criticized it by saying it’s just a way to make more money.

The São Paulo Court of Justice fined $19 million on Apple and said to include a compatible sharing adapter in iPhones sold in Brazil. The company said to appeal the court’s decision as it did with previous production halt too.

At the beginning of 2022, Samsung was hit with the same requirement in Brazil. The company decided to be compliant with the Brazilian government and is now including the plug adapter with its latest products.
