2023 Android phones could ‘also’ switch to solid-state buttons, ditching physical ones: Apple analyst
Earlier, we saw a concept showing off a Samsung device without physical power and volume buttons. The company has not yet disclosed any info about its plans to ditch physical buttons, while, a famous Apple analyst now come up with information that iPhone 15 Pro and 2023 Android phones could use solid-state button design.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple iPhone 15 Pro will be equipped with solid-state power and volume buttons, ditching the traditional physical buttons. Moreover, top Android flagships launching in 2023 could also follow Apple’s footsteps of ditching physical buttons in favor of solid-state volume and power buttons.

As noted by the analyst, Apple could implement some elements such as Taptic Engines on the internal left and right sides in order to provide force feedback so users can have to feel like they are pressing physical buttons. It could finally be possible with the implementation of a total of three vibrators.

When it comes to the power button and volume rockers, smartphone manufacturers are not thinking about it anything for a long. As Apple is reportedly ditching traditional buttons, Android vendors will surely switch to solid-state buttons, which could bring better results for OEMs in terms of sales.

It is expected that high-end Android smartphones will also follow Apple's design to create new selling points, which is a structural positive for the mobile phone vibrator industry.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) October 28, 2022
Removal of physical power and volume buttons won’t not only make phones advanced and unique in design, but it also let them prevent the insertion of water and dust particles. As there won’t be any kind of gap in the right body, the chances of dust and water insertion will be significantly reduced.
If we talk specifically about Samsung for removal of physical buttons. We might see a mid-range Galaxy A phone with solid-state power and volume buttons. The company won’t bet on its flagship line for such kind of big change that can badly make an impact on sales.
Let’s see, what happens next!

Galaxy S24 FE: Samsung’s budget flagship under development
Samsung is reportedly working on the development of the Galaxy S24 FE. Earlier this year, the company released the Galaxy S24 flagships, which are selling well globally. Now, the company has started work on its next budget flagship, with a release expected later this year.
GalaxyClub reports that Samsung is developing the Galaxy S24 FE with the R12 codename. The codename aligns with Samsung’s previous releases as the S20 FE was codenamed R8, the S21 FE was R9, the S23 FE was R11, and the R11 (S22 FE) was in development but hasn’t been released.
It was reported that Samsung might launch the S24 FE in the summer. As the development starts late, the release may be pushed to later this year, as testing and production aren’t finalized yet. The latest report also has no other details than the device’s codename.
Galaxy S23 FE has the hardware specs of the S22 series, however, the S24 FE might bring the latest. If it happens, we might see a price hike in the next budget flagship. New Galaxy AI features are also expected to debut with the S24 FE, before the S25 series launch next year.
Samsung is also working on an affordable Galaxy Z Fold 6, which would be the first Fan Edition foldable. Judging from the 2023 release strategy, it’s expected that the Galaxy S24 FE might launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold FE, new FE tablets.
