Samsung’s newly honored executive is helping VC Lee become chairman
Samsung looking for some strategic appointments in recent times globally. Three days before it hired ‘Anton Sukovaty’ as the head of the division of Management and Development, Russia. Now hired a governance specialist Daniel Oh, who is a corporate governance and shareholder strategies expert.
The ‘Korea Times‘ caught some market watchers and interpreted in its statement that ” The move is to help Vice Chairman ‘Lee Jae-young to become a chairman. Mr. Oh is here for winning the support and cooperation of institutional investors while reorganizing the firm shareholding governance structure.

Daniel Oh is expected to map out a strategy to help Lee regain his status as the registered director of the firm, a position that he lost in 2019, due to his conviction in a bribery trial caused by a scandal involving a disgraced former President Park Geun Hye.
At present times Lee has been serving as an unregistered director of the firm without any kind of remuneration. An unregistered director means he is not a member of the company board but can play a role in the decision-making process.
Who is Daniel Oh?
Talking specifically about Daniel Oh’s profile, he is an MIT graduate in economics and he has worked as a senior executive for Morrow Sodali a strategic advisory, Barrack Gold Corp a mining firm, and State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), and Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS). He has more than twenty years of experience to count on.
Business analysts say that this is a risky scenario for Samsung, whose corporate restructuring involves sales, division, and the merger of affiliates. It seems investors could be frustrated at the time of the vote, during the general shareholder meeting.
We will keep a close watch on the post-market reactions after Daniel Oh’s appointment and will see how his strategic moves are going to benefit Samsung in maintaining its corporate governance.
