At the Galaxy Unpacked 2021, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S21 series flagships. At the same time, the company has also introduced several products such as Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy Watch Active 2 [Rose Gold], Galaxy SmartTag, SmartTag+ and the One UI 3.1 software system.

Following the announcement, all of these devices went available to purchase except for the premium version of the Galaxy SmartTag, which was expected to start later this year. Moving forward, Samsung has recently introduced the Galaxy SmartTag+ that will available starting on April 16.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ is official

The Galaxy SmartTag+ features both ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology so that it can pinpoint the location with greater accuracy. Moreover, it also uses augmented reality (AR) technology to visually guide you towards where your missing item is located using your smartphone’s camera.

Galaxy SmartTag+ lets easily find misplaced items

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ can be easily attached to everyday items, like a backpack or keychain, so they can be precisely and easily located through the SmartThings Find service on your Galaxy device.

AR Finder allows locating your belongings visually

With the high-profile BLE and UWB technology support, the Galaxy SmartTag+ lets you use AR technology to find your missing item. The AR Finder guides you with an easy-to-follow interface on your UWB-equipped smartphone, such as Galaxy S21+ or S21 Ultra, which shows you how far away you are from your Galaxy SmartTag+ and points you in its direction.

“UWB is a true game changer, making it possible to lock onto the position of an object with much greater precision. That’s why we’re continuing to expand UWB throughout the Galaxy ecosystem, finding new ways to leverage this technology to help make people’s everyday lives easier and more convenient,” said KJ Kim, EVP and Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

Pinpoint your tag’s location, even when it’s far away

The Galaxy SmartTag+ can also take advantage of the powerful detection function of SmartThings Find, which enables you to locate on the map even if you place it far away from you. This is because the tag uses the BLE connection and the function of the Galaxy device network. SmartThings Find users can choose to opt-in through the SmartThings app and enable their Galaxy smartphones or tablets to help others find their lost tags or devices.

Once you report that your tag is missing in SmartThings Find, all nearby Galaxy devices that opt-in will send an alert to the SmartThings server about their location, and you will be notified. All data in SmartThings Find is encrypted and protected, so no one but you will see the location of the tag.

Remotely control your smart devices

Most importantly, Galaxy SmartTag+ and SmartTag are not only helpful for finding lost property. Forgot to turn off the bedside lamp, but have you left the house? You can use SmartTag+ or SmartTag to turn off the lights remotely without having to go home. Through the SmartThings app, you can choose the different functions that you want the label to complete when you press or hold the label button.

Availability

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ is progressively available from April 16. The Galaxy SmartTag+ operates using the SmartThings Find service, provided in the SmartThings app. To find out more, visit www.samsung.com/smartthings.

Apple’s generative AI to stand out from Samsung Galaxy?

Samsung Apple Canalys q4 2023

Apple seems to have decided to introduce its Generative AI tech this year. During the recent earnings call, Tim Cook talked about generative AI, claiming to have “advantages” that will “differentiate” Apple in the era of artificial intelligence.

Tim Cook also claimed that some “very exciting things” will be shared with customers soon. Apple’s CEO might be linking it with the yearly Developers event that takes place in June. After teasing the advancements next month, the iPhone 16 may ship with AI features.

Galaxy AI is a key reason behind Samsung’s sizzling S24 sales globally. Apple will likely sell high number of iPhone 16 models, thanks to AI’s inclusion. As the company claims, the edge over rivals would be worth watching on how previous companies have missed opportunity.

Apple is reportedly preferring on-device AI features rather than cloud-based. It’s a limited approach against Samsung, which introduced both on-device and cloud-based AI features with the Galaxy S24 series. Well, the industry is likely to benefit from Apple’s entry into the AI era.

  • We continue to feel very bullish about our opportunity in generative AI. We are making significant investments and we’re looking forward to sharing some very exciting things with our customers soon.
  • We believe in the transformative power and promise of AI and we believe we have advantages that will differentiate us in this new era, including Apple’s unique combination of seamless hardware, software and services integration, groundbreaking Apple silicon with our industry leading neural engines, and our unwavering focus on privacy, which underpins everything we create.

Apple iPhone 16 Galaxy S24 thin-bezel

Korea’s Samsung Display and LG Display prep to initiate Apple iPhone 16 Pro display production in the first half. The report states that Apple has reduced the bottom bezel of the display for the upcoming Pro models, which would include the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

According to TheElec, Samsung Display will commence Apple iPhone 16 display production in the first half itself. While the timeline isn’t clear, it’s expected that LG Display is also striving to begin the mass production of panels for the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.

Samsung reportedly established an organization earlier this month to strengthen its Apple business. It is reported that the Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology is applied to make the bottom bezel thinner on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.

Samsung Display will likely produce OLED panels for all four models, including two Pro models and the other regular and Plus models. Meanwhile, LG Display plans to produce only two models, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, which require a thin bottom bezel.
