According to information shared by leaker @phonefuturist, Samsung is testing a shared telephoto camera setup across the Galaxy S27 lineup. The Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are reportedly being tested with the same 3x telephoto camera as the Galaxy S27 Pro.

The leak also claims that the Galaxy S27 and S27+ could use the same main and ultrawide cameras as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. If this happens, the standard models could offer a camera experience closer to the Ultra model. September 9 could be an important date for Samsung, as the company may make a major decision about the final camera hardware around that time.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra could see a bigger camera change. Samsung is reportedly testing a new 50-megapixel telephoto camera with a 1/1.9-inch sensor. The camera could offer native 4x optical zoom. However, Samsung has not made a final decision yet. The company is reportedly comparing the new 4x camera with its usual 5x telephoto camera.

The main question is whether the new 4x camera will offer a big enough improvement to justify its higher cost. If Samsung does not see a major real-time benefit, it could decide to keep the traditional 5x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The leak also says Samsung is currently testing five different Galaxy S27 Ultra prototypes. This means the final camera setup may still change before the phone is officially ready. Leaked internal design information reportedly shows Apple making additional space for the expanded vapor chamber, including changes around the Dynamic Island area.

The move suggests thermal management is becoming a more important consideration when Apple designs the internal architecture of its flagship phones.

Looking further ahead, Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone expected in 2027 could make thermal management even more important. Rumors point toward a heavily glass-based design, potentially limiting traditional heat dissipation.

Galaxy S27 Ultra to get 4x super telephoto camera

Tipster @Phonefuturist claims that Samsung is testing a super telephoto camera. The tipster has also shared the key features of the camera, including a 1/1.9-inch sensor size and 4x optical zoom support.

In smartphone photography, upgrading to a 4x super telephoto module featuring a large 1/1.9-inch sensor yields several significant hardware and practical image-quality benefits:

1. Superior low-light performance
2. Higher native resolution and high pixel count (in-sensor zooming)
3. Natural optical bokeh and depth of field
4. Dynamic range and highlight retention
5. Enhanced telephoto video quality

The alleged 4x super telephoto is being tested for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, there’s no certainty the company will bring this sensor to its flagship phone next year.

Galaxy S27 Ultra drops dual-telephoto approach

What seems certain is the removal of the legacy 3x camera sensor from the device. The sensor would not be replaced by another sensor, but be dumped from the phone itself.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could be the first Ultra flagship in seven years to come with a triple camera setup. The device will have a 200-megapixel primary, 50-megapixel ultrawide, and probably a 50-megapixel telephoto.

Galaxy S27, S27+, and S27 Pro will also be introduced along with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The Unpacked event is expected to be held in late February 2027, with general sales could begin in the first week of March 2026.

Huawei Mate XT 2, the company’s next tri-fold foldable phone, has adopted the Samsung TriFold design formula for better durability.

Leaked renders (via IceUniverse) suggest the company is moving away from the exposed, outward-folding approach used on the original Mate XT and toward an inward-folding structure that closely resembles the Galaxy Z TriFold.

The biggest change in the Huawei Mate XT 2 design is how the flexible display is stored. Instead of leaving part of the large panel exposed when the phone is closed, both outer sections reportedly fold inward over the central screen.

This creates a more enclosed structure that can shield the flexible panel from scratches, accidental knocks and everyday wear. That approach is notably similar to Samsung’s TriFold, which folds both sides inward to protect its main display.

Samsung also uses reinforced display construction, dual-rail hinges and a titanium hinge housing as part of its durability strategy.

Huawei’s move is particularly interesting because the Mate XT was one of the first commercially available tri-fold phones, but its outward-facing screen design came with an obvious trade-off, but the Mate XT 2 could address that weakness.

The latest renders show a large, angular rear camera module and a premium textured finish, suggesting Huawei is changing the internal folding architecture without abandoning the Mate series’ distinctive visual identity.
