The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature the largest vapor chamber cooling solution ever used in an iPhone, giving Apple more room to manage heat generated by increasingly demanding workloads.

Apple introduced vapor chamber cooling with the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. For the iPhone 18 Pro, the company is said to be expanding the cooling hardware considerably.

The upgraded vapor chamber system built for the iPhone 18 Pro models reportedly covers more of the internal structure and extends further toward the upper section of the chassis.

Increasing chip performance also increases the amount of heat that needs to be moved away from critical components. It makes the larger thermal system important as Apple continues pushing on-device AI, gaming and high workloads.

Leaked internal design information reportedly shows Apple making additional space for the expanded vapor chamber, including changes around the Dynamic Island area.

The move suggests thermal management is becoming a more important consideration when Apple designs the internal architecture of its flagship phones.

Looking further ahead, Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone expected in 2027 could make thermal management even more important. Rumors point toward a heavily glass-based design, potentially limiting traditional heat dissipation.

Apple’s continued investment in vapor chamber technology could therefore be part of a broader strategy to prepare its future iPhones for higher performance and thinner designs.

Samsung is reportedly planning a super telephoto camera upgrade for its next big flagship smartphone. The company is allegedly testing a new super telephoto camera sensor for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which offers 4x optical zoom.

Tipster @Phonefuturist claims that Samsung is testing a super telephoto camera. The tipster has also shared the key features of the camera, including a 1/1.9-inch sensor size and 4x optical zoom support.

In smartphone photography, upgrading to a 4x super telephoto module featuring a large 1/1.9-inch sensor yields several significant hardware and practical image-quality benefits:

  1. Superior low-light performance
  2. Higher native resolution and high pixel count (in-sensor zooming)
  3. Natural optical bokeh and depth of field
  4. Dynamic range and highlight retention
  5. Enhanced telephoto video quality

The alleged 4x super telephoto is being tested for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, there’s no certainty the company will bring this sensor to its flagship phone next year.

Huawei Mate XT 2, the company’s next tri-fold foldable phone, has adopted the Samsung TriFold design formula for better durability.

Leaked renders (via IceUniverse) suggest the company is moving away from the exposed, outward-folding approach used on the original Mate XT and toward an inward-folding structure that closely resembles the Galaxy Z TriFold.

The biggest change in the Huawei Mate XT 2 design is how the flexible display is stored. Instead of leaving part of the large panel exposed when the phone is closed, both outer sections reportedly fold inward over the central screen.

This creates a more enclosed structure that can shield the flexible panel from scratches, accidental knocks and everyday wear. That approach is notably similar to Samsung’s TriFold, which folds both sides inward to protect its main display.

Samsung also uses reinforced display construction, dual-rail hinges and a titanium hinge housing as part of its durability strategy.

Huawei’s move is particularly interesting because the Mate XT was one of the first commercially available tri-fold phones, but its outward-facing screen design came with an obvious trade-off, but the Mate XT 2 could address that weakness.

The latest renders show a large, angular rear camera module and a premium textured finish, suggesting Huawei is changing the internal folding architecture without abandoning the Mate series’ distinctive visual identity.

Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max could come with hardware-level Privacy Display technology. The company has crafted necessary options inside its firmware, which would let users personalize the functionality of Privacy Display.

Samsung Display was reported to have restricted its Privacy Display OLED supply to Samsung MX until 2028. However, the leaked screenshots show just how the Privacy Display feature will likely work on an upcoming Xiaomi phone.

Xiaomi’s “Smart privacy display” feature has been leaked from Global ROM. The interface suggests users will be able to personalize groups and add different apps to each group, so you can have different privacy display settings for them.

In addition, owners of compatible phones could be allowed to set things so that the phone will automatically switch to the privacy display for sensitive pages like password entry, payments, transfers, and messaging.

That’s exactly how the Privacy Display feature works on Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung is working on four Galaxy S27 models for an early 2027 debut, with Privacy Display tech reportedly utilized across all variants of the lineup.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 demand is creating a display chip supply crunch

The new Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable form factor appears to be finding more buyers than Samsung initially expected, and that success is now creating a problem further up the display chip supply chain.

Korean outlet ZDNet reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly facing a shortage of its Display Driver IC (DDI), the specialized chip responsible for controlling pixels on the phone’s OLED display.

The South Korean tech giant is said to have increased component orders as demand for the passport-style foldable outpaces its original projections, but ramping up DDI production is proving difficult.

Samsung’s System LSI division designs the Galaxy Z Fold 8 display chip, while Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) manufactures it using a 22nm process.

The problem is that UMC’s capacity on this node is already heavily utilized. Samsung has reportedly asked UMC to prioritize production through its highest-priority manufacturing process, known as a Super Hot Run.

Samsung is reportedly looking to bridge the gap by redirecting some DDI inventory originally reserved for future product development toward current Z Fold 8 production.

If demand continues at the current pace, Samsung may need to carefully manage its existing display chip inventory until additional foundry capacity becomes available.

Some Galaxy S26 Ultra owners who received color calibration, either through the update or at Samsung service centers, are now claiming that small dot-like marks have appeared near the top portion of the display.
