Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra are widely rumored to feature a familiar design, but the latest case leak has just revealed more than expected.

Third-party accessory brand Thinborne has recently revealed images of the cases for Samsung’s upcoming foldables. The case leak previews Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8 (Wide), and Z Fold 8 Ultra through their accessories.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 has no visible change in terms of design. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) brings a different screen ratio than previous Fold models. It introduces a wider design approach in both folded and unfolded conditions.

What stands out is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which will succeed the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The upcoming Fold models’ case has a slightly different camera bump than its predecessor, as noted by the case maker Thinborne as well.

Samsung is certain to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with an Ultra identity. The regular Fold 8 model would feature wide screens, rumored as Fold 8 Wide. Meanwhile, the Flip 8 is rumored to be the last Samsung flip phone.

Recently, it was revealed that Samsung could bring the Carbon Standing Case to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Notably, the accessory in question is currently available exclusively on the Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone.

Samsung trims Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Fold 8 Ultra targets to 5-6 million

Samsung seems to be losing hope for increasing the sales of its next-gen foldable phones. The company has silently trimmed targets for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra, combined, by nearly 1 million units.

According to ZDNet, Samsung has recently revised the sales target of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 for 2026. The company is following a conservative approach for this year’s foldable phones, too.

To recall, the South Korean tech giant had set a target of around 6 million Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 sales in 2025. Earlier this year, the targets were raised to nearly 7 million units for the three foldables coming this year.

Supply chain revealed the latest targets, which are as follows:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: 2.0 million to 2.5 million units
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8: around 1.5 million to 2.0 million units
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide): around 1.5 million to 2.0 million units

Galaxy Z Flip 8 will succeed the Galaxy Z Flip 7, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is coming as a sequel to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung is bringing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a wider screen design to take on Apple’s potential iPhone Ultra.

Before the latest sales target revision, Samsung planned nearly three million units of the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, as well as 500,000 units of the Wide Fold. Revised targets reduce the share of legacy models in favor of the new Wide entry.

An industry source stated:

“Based on Samsung’s latest plans, Wide Fold shipments could reach as many as 2 million units by the end of the year. Supply volumes for related components and displays have also been increasing significantly since this month.”

Samsung is expected to launch the new foldable phones in late July 2026.

Samsung announces 20% rewards campaign in Korea

Samsung

Samsung dropped something unusual this week: a month-long campaign that gives every customer who buys a Samsung product 20% rewards in Onnuri Gift Certificates in South Korea.

The company expects to distribute roughly KRW 400 billion in certificates over four weeks. That’s approximately $290 million worth of consumer spending redirected straight into local economies.

Onnuri certificates can’t be spent at Samsung. They go to the corner restaurant, the traditional market stall, the local convenience store. Samsung is essentially saying: here’s our profit, go spend it somewhere else.

June is Korea’s Month of Patriots and Veterans, but the data underneath it carries weight. Uniformed public servants, military, police, firefighters, and correctional officers get bumped to 30% total benefits.

The Onnuri mechanism is smart regardless of motive. SEMAS data shows merchants who join the program see sales lift around 4%, climbing past 12% by year three. Annual certificate sales have tripled since 2015, hitting KRW 2.67 trillion in 2024.

Following a labor-management agreement reached on May 27, Samsung stated:

“We will ensure that Samsung’s growth and achievements create a positive ripple effect not only for employees but also for society as a whole. Over the next five years, we will establish a KRW 5 trillion fund to invest in mutual growth, a healthy industrial ecosystem, and nurturing future talent.”

Samsung is bringing its AI-powered Galaxy S26 Ultra to the BTS World Tour “Arirang” concert in Busan. Fans will be able to experience the power of Galaxy AI on the company’s flagship phone at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on June 12.

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 series. The flagship model, S26 Ultra, introduces next-gen hardware capabilities. Privacy display is one of the biggest highlights, which gets continuous treatment in ads.

This March, the Korean tech giant signed a partnership with HYBE, which brings it to the center of BTS World Tour venues. As the journey continues, Busan is the next stoppage where the BTS Arirang concert will be held next week.

The program was first introduced at the May concert in Stanford, California.

The flagship program is the “Concert Immersion Culture” initiative. During the performance, the audience will briefly set down their phones, focus on the stage, and capture epic moments using the Galaxy S26 Ultra to share on Instagram.

Samsung is also setting up an interactive experience booth, as well as a giant display at the Busan venue. The display will showcase cheers written by fans, translated into Korean live using the Galaxy AI translation.

Samsung and Actro push forward with glass substrate inspection innovation

Published

Samsung conductive Key button patent

Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Actro are working together to create a new machine that can check glass substrates for defects. Glass substrates are special glass materials that may be used in future semiconductor chips.

The new machine uses terahertz (THz) waves, a type of electromagnetic wave. These waves can go through glass and help find tiny cracks or damage inside the material. This allows engineers to check the glass without breaking or cutting it.

Samsung is providing glass substrate samples to Actro. Actro is using these samples to improve its inspection equipment and make it better at finding defects.

The biggest benefit of terahertz technology is that it is non-destructive. This means the glass does not get damaged during testing. It is also safer than X-ray inspection because it does not use harmful radiation. Another advantage is that it does not need liquids or special materials during the inspection process.

Samsung

However, there is one problem. The inspection process is still slow. The machine checks one small point at a time instead of scanning the whole glass at once. Due to this, it takes a long time to inspect an entire glass substrate.

To solve this issue, Actro is developing a method that focuses only on areas where defects are likely to be found. This can help reduce inspection time and make the technology suitable for mass production.

Terahertz inspection will become more important as glass substrates are used in future semiconductor packaging. Samsung expects glass substrate technology to be commercialized around 2028. Both companies are working to make the inspection process faster and more practical for future semiconductor manufacturing.

TSMC

The President and CEO of TSMC reportedly trolled Samsung Electronics over their chip leadership ambitions. The company’s executive head remarked during a Q&A session with reporters, which Samsung won’t like at all.

TSMC President and CEO C.C. Wei stated that TSMC will continue to dominate the contract chip manufacturing market, while rival (Samsung Electronics) will keep playing catch-up and meet and repeat their own deadlines.

YahooFinance (via SemiconductorInsider) reported that C.C. Wei is confident that “Taiwan’s dominance will be continuously maintained.” The executive also pointed out that “Our competitors are practically dreaming.”

The official wisely mocked Samsung’s semiconductor ambitions and promises, including catching up with TSMC in 10 years and still repeating the same deadline, even after passing 10 years rivaling against the Taiwanese chip giant.

Without naming Samsung, TSMC CEO Wei remarked, “Twenty years ago, our competitor said they would catch up with TSMC in 10 years; 10 years ago, they said they would catch up in another 10 years; and recently, they said yet again that they would catch up in 10 years.”

Well, Wei admitted that South Korea is the leader in HBM solutions, which is crucial for AI infrastructure. Meanwhile, TSMC still firmly controls the world’s most powerful advanced packaging technology.
