Samsung announces 20% rewards campaign in Korea

Samsung dropped something unusual this week: a month-long campaign that gives every customer who buys a Samsung product 20% rewards in Onnuri Gift Certificates in South Korea.

The company expects to distribute roughly KRW 400 billion in certificates over four weeks. That’s approximately $290 million worth of consumer spending redirected straight into local economies.

Onnuri certificates can’t be spent at Samsung. They go to the corner restaurant, the traditional market stall, the local convenience store. Samsung is essentially saying: here’s our profit, go spend it somewhere else.

June is Korea’s Month of Patriots and Veterans, but the data underneath it carries weight. Uniformed public servants, military, police, firefighters, and correctional officers get bumped to 30% total benefits.

The Onnuri mechanism is smart regardless of motive. SEMAS data shows merchants who join the program see sales lift around 4%, climbing past 12% by year three. Annual certificate sales have tripled since 2015, hitting KRW 2.67 trillion in 2024.

Following a labor-management agreement reached on May 27, Samsung stated:

“We will ensure that Samsung’s growth and achievements create a positive ripple effect not only for employees but also for society as a whole. Over the next five years, we will establish a KRW 5 trillion fund to invest in mutual growth, a healthy industrial ecosystem, and nurturing future talent.”

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Watch Party

Qualcomm Snapdragon published a new post on its official social handles, which invites tech enthusiasts to join a live Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Watch Unpacked watch party on the Snapdragon Insiders Discord.

This Qualcomm activity is aimed at encouraging real-time discussion of Samsung’s upcoming device specs and features. The event will start at the same time Samsung kicks off its Galaxy Unpacked keynote in London.

The event graphic promotes “A New Shape Unfolds” for July 22 at 6 AM PT (2 PM UK, 6:30 PM India), featuring a ticket-style design with Discord branding to draw in community members.

Qualcomm is backing Galaxy Unpacked for a reason. Samsung has three foldable phones and two smartwatches to launch at tomorrow’s Unpacked.

Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra come with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This year, Samsung is using Snapdragon Wear Elite chip in the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 rather than Exynos W1000.

Samsung’s Q3 memory prices fail to sway OPPO and vivo as Xiaomi boosts smartphone sales

Samsung DRAM NAND

Samsung and other manufacturers softened their memory price hike for Q3 2026, yet Oppo and Vivo reportedly refuse to entertain the proposal.

The worldwide memory market is seeing back-to-back price increases. The primary reason is the AI boom, which is leading to HBM being in high demand. Since the product is more profitable, vendors are focusing less on DRAM.

A new report from Chinese media reveals that Oppo and Vivo have refused the Q3 2026 memory price hike proposal of Samsung. It seems the two smartphone vendors are “no longer willing to absorb rising memory costs,” via Jukan.

At the start of the month, Korean media reported that the Korean tech giant has proposed a 20 percent price hike for the memory orders in the third quarter of the year.

Twenty percent sounds big until you remember the increase in the previous quarters. Over the past four quarters, the costs of DRAM and NAND flash rose significantly.

Meanwhile, the rise has started to soften as demand stabilizes. AI boom and HBM trend won’t be fading anytime soon. Meanwhile, downstream smartphone makers are starting to hope for an upward trend in their 2027 shipments.

China’s Xiaomi is reportedly increasing its shipment target. It comes after trimming the sales targets twice in a row in 2026. The smartphone market could return to its momentum as supply and prices of memory stabilize.

Samsung Galaxy Card

Samsung Galaxy Card is Samsung’s first branded credit card in the US. It offers up to 5% cash rewards on eligible Samsung purchases, carries no annual fee, and is issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank on the Visa network.

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Card, the company has officially entered the US credit card market. It gives Galaxy users another way to earn rewards across the company’s ecosystem.

The new card is designed for everyday spending, but its biggest benefits are reserved for Samsung shoppers and Samsung Wallet users.

What cash rewards does the Samsung Galaxy Card offer?

The Galaxy Card provides multiple cashback tiers depending on where and how you spend. Samsung has spread the rewards across shopping, digital payments, subscriptions, and everyday purchases instead of focusing on a single category.

  • Samsung purchases made directly – 5% cash rewards
  • Purchases through Samsung Wallet – 3% cash rewards
  • Eligible streaming services – 2% cash rewards
  • All other eligible purchases – 1% cash rewards
  • Welcome offer – $200 bonus after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days

The card also includes 20% off Samsung VIP Advantage and comes with a $0 annual fee. The reward structure encourages users to stay within the company’s ecosystem while still offering standard cashback on everyday spending.

For Samsung power users, the 5% cashback rate and Samsung Wallet incentives could generate meaningful savings over time. Since the highest rewards depend on spending within Samsung’s ecosystem, shoppers who rarely buy Samsung products may find the standard 1% cashback less competitive.

Samsung launches new RX Division dedicated to Robotics

Boston Dynamics Robot

Samsung RX Business Promotion Office (Robotics eXperience) is a new CEO-led organization created to make robotics one of the company’s core growth businesses. It brings strategy, research, engineering, and commercialization under one structure, with a focus on industrial automation first, followed by enterprise and consumer robotics.

According to Maeil Business Newspaper, Samsung has established the RX Business Promotion Office directly under CEO oversight. The organization will operate from Samsung’s Seoul R&D Campus in Umyeon-dong.

Samsung is also building a dedicated data factory at its Gumi manufacturing complex, enabling robots to train on real production data generated from facilities valued at more than $33 billion.

While Samsung has attracted public attention with concepts like Ballie, industrial robotics offers a clearer business case and immediate deployment opportunities.

What stands out is the recruitment strategy

Lee Dong-gun brings direct Boston Dynamics experience, while Professor Kim Hyun-jin of Seoul National University specializes in autonomous robot systems, and Professor Kim Ui-gyeom of Ajou University is known for robotic hand manipulation research.

Samsung’s manufacturing facilities give its robotics teams a practical training environment that companies pursuing humanoid robots, including Tesla with Optimus, are still expanding.

The company’s latest move suggests robotics is entering the company’s mainstream strategy rather than remaining an experimental initiative.

A Samsung Electronics official said, “The RX Business Promotion Office, launched directly under the CEO, is expected to accelerate technology development and respond swiftly to market changes based on fast decision-making and execution. In doing so, it will create differentiated robot experiences and business opportunities.”

Samsung expands AI memory business with NVIDIA V-NAND supply

Nvidia Samsung

While much of the spotlight has remained on HBM and DRAM, Samsung is now expanding its role in another fast-growing part of the AI infrastructure market by supplying more of its latest V-NAND flash memory to NVIDIA.

According to SEDaily, Samsung has significantly increased shipments of its 9th-generation V-NAND (V9) to NVIDIA while preparing mass production and commercial shipments of its 10th-generation (V10) V-NAND.

The company is also running trial production for its eleventh generation (V11) technology, which is expected to feature between 400 and 500 memory layers.

Samsung’s monthly V-NAND wafer output already exceeds 100,000 wafers, and around 60 percent of that capacity has reportedly been reassigned to V9 production.

NVIDIA is preparing to launch its Context Memory Storage (CMX) platform during the second half of the year. NAND demand for CMX deployments could grow from around 35 million TB this year to more than 100 million TB next year.

Samsung’s 10th-gen V-NAND represents more than a routine upgrade. The company has increased the stack height into the 400-layer range while delivering roughly 50% greater storage density compared to the 286-layer design used in V9.

Additionally, Samsung boss Lee is scheduled to meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in San Francisco, where discussions are expected to cover broader cooperation in HBM, future NAND technologies, and potential data center projects in South Korea.
