WhatsApp is testing original media quality option that lets you skip compression

Published

WhatsApp original quality media sharing

WhatsApp is developing a native option to send media (photos and videos) in uncompressed, original quality, according to findings in the Android beta build 2.26.44.12. The feature expands beyond the existing Standard and HD presets, targeting power users who require pixel-perfect file delivery without resorting to workaround file-sharing methods.

Currently, WhatsApp’s standard tier compresses media heavily, while its HD toggle introduces lighter compression while retaining up to six times more data.

The upcoming “Original quality” mode bypasses compression algorithms entirely, as discovered by WABetaInfo. Meta plans to limit file size and resolution parameters only at extreme thresholds well beyond standard camera output.

WhatsApp original quality media sharing

The capability is slated as an exclusive perk for WhatsApp Plus. While standard users can currently send uncompressed files by routing media through the document picker, the native editor toggle streamlines high-fidelity transfers into the primary media flow.

The move reflects a broader monetization strategy across Meta’s messaging ecosystem, reserving workflow conveniences for paid subscribers while leaving core functionality accessible. By embedding full-resolution sharing into the standard camera and gallery pipeline, WhatsApp bridges a functional gap long exploited by platform competitors like Telegram.

The feature remains under active development and is expected to roll out to beta testers ahead of a wider public release in a future Android update.

Samsung One UI 9.5 introduces new Mindful Note feature, refreshed Health app UI

Published

on

Samsung Health 2026

The upcoming One UI 9.5 software update is already shaping up to be a more practical refinement layer over One UI 9.0, particularly for Samsung’s core ecosystem apps, such as Samsung Calendar and Samsung Health.

While early firmware leaks highlighted initial UI shifts across system menus, a fresh look at pre-release builds obtained by SamMobile reveals a substantial functional overhaul coming to first-party utilities.

Samsung Health introduces Mindful note, AI tools

The most prominent addition inside the One UI 9.5 version of Samsung Health is “Mindful note,” a dedicated mental wellness tracking tool embedded within the existing Mindfulness tab.

The feature marks Samsung’s first real attempt at integrating structured micro-journaling directly into its wellness platform. Users can create freeform entries or tap into curated prompts organized across four central themes:

  1. About yourself
  2. Relationships
  3. Work and goals
  4. What if…?

Samsung overhauled the internal layout of the Mindfulness dashboard. The legacy configuration has been swapped for a streamlined grid featuring four circular shortcuts, placing Mindful note right on the main tier.

Lower down the page, Samsung simplified the broader visual hierarchy.

High-contrast, saturated tiles like Energy Score, Cycle Tracking, Vitals, and Vascular Load now utilize softer, semi-transparent backgrounds with unified circular badges replacing the older, heavy illustration blocks.

This design pivot is notable given the timeline. Samsung delivered a massive structural redesign to the Health platform just five months ago, reorganizing the core experience around Activity, Sleep, Vitals, Mindfulness, and Nutrition.

Rather than ripping up that structure again, One UI 9.5 treats the layout as a foundation, polishing visual elements to match the translucent, glass-like UI motifs seen throughout preliminary Android 17 builds.

While these early leaks originate from non-final software builds, the directional strategy for One UI 9.5 is clear. Samsung appears focused on tightening platform performance, harmonizing visual translucency, and expanding native software capabilities.

Samsung Calendar’s One UI 9.5 redesign

Samsung’s One UI 9.5 updates the native Calendar app with ergonomic design changes. The search button and streamlined “Add event” bar move to the bottom corner for easier one-handed reach.

The update also adds a “Key events” quick-filter section and consolidates Settings, Sync, and Recycle Bin into the top drawer menu, offering a practical layout upgrade over One UI 9.0.

Early builds of Samsung’s upcoming One UI 9.5 update reveal targeted adjustments to core system applications, with the native Samsung Calendar receiving a pragmatic layout overhaul aimed at ergonomics and navigation speed.

While not a complete architectural rewrite of the application, the build signals Samsung’s ongoing effort to refine basic touch targets across its large-screen Galaxy fleet.

Samsung Calendar: One UI 9.0 vs One UI 9.5

Hands-on testing of the extracted One UI 9.5 Calendar APK, via SamMobile, highlights a calculated shift in how users interact with day-to-day scheduling tools.

Search function

Most notably, the search function has migrated from the traditional upper-display header to a dedicated circular button situated at the bottom-right corner. It now sits directly alongside the primary event creation bar.

That input bar itself has been streamlined; Samsung replaced the previous context-heavy date readout with a clean, unified “Add event” prompt. This adjustment reduces visual clutter while placing primary interaction zones within comfortable thumb reach on taller displays like the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Search experience

Inside the search experience, Samsung introduced a “Key events” category. This section surfaces high-priority entries as tap-friendly pill buttons directly above the existing color-coded and account-based filters.

Side drawer

Further inside the side drawer, structural cleanup brings parity to system utility controls. The manual “Sync now” toggle, “Recycle bin,” and system “Settings” now sit grouped as an explicit list at the top of the drawer, replacing the legacy design that split settings into a top gear icon while leaving sync and trash options buried beneath account trees.

These structural tweaks reflect a broader trend in Samsung’s interface philosophy following the main One UI 9.0 release. Where earlier software generations focused on expanding feature counts, mid-cycle point releases are increasingly dedicated to micro-ergonomics, reducing the physical distance a user’s digit must cover to execute recurring commands.

Positioning search and event creation into a consolidated bottom anchor matches recent design choices seen in Google’s Android Material guidelines, suggesting an industry-wide consensus on bottom-heavy mobile UI design.

The updates present a modest but functional refinement over One UI 9.0. Given that One UI 9.5 remains in active development, additional interface adjustments or feature additions may surface before a wide commercial rollout.

For Galaxy users reliant on local scheduling over third-party tools like Google Calendar, these changes demonstrate that Samsung is continuing to polish its core ecosystem apps ahead of its next flagship hardware cycle.

WhatsApp users can now create separate chats with Meta AI

Published

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will make it easier for users to manage their chats with Meta AI. The messaging app is introducing separate chats for Meta AI, allowing users to create different conversations and find them easily in their chat list.

With this feature, users can create separate chats with Meta AI for different topics. To create a new chat, users need to open their conversation with Meta AI and select the new chat option from the three-dot menu. They can then enter a name for the chat and choose a custom profile picture to identify it easily.

Once created, the new chat will automatically appear in the WhatsApp chat list, just like regular conversations. A small Meta AI logo on the profile picture will help users identify these AI chats.

WhatsApp is also adding a new AI filter in the Chats tab. Users can tap this filter to see all their conversations with Meta AI in one place. They can also move the filter to a separate section if they do not want it in the main chat list. Users can delete these chats whenever they want.

Earlier, users had to open the main Meta AI conversation and find their saved threads through the menu. The new feature makes it easier to switch between different AI conversations.

The feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.44.6 update, available on the Google Play Store. It is currently rolling out to some beta testers. There is no information about when it will be available to all users.

YouTube Premium Lite US

Google Photos is working on a new feature, Overnight Backup, which will make it easier for users to back up their photos and videos. The feature will allow users to upload their media to the cloud at night without having to keep checking their phones.

The new feature has been spotted in version 8.0 of the Google Photos app. It includes a new option called “Keep your device awake overnight for faster backups” in the Backup settings.

To use this feature, users will need to turn it on manually. They will also need to keep their phone unlocked, connected to a charger and Google Photos open on the screen.

After setting everything up, users can tap the “Start overnight backup” button. A progress circle will show how much of the backup is complete. Once the process starts, the phone screen will turn black to save battery, but the backup will continue.

Users can tap the screen anytime to check the backup progress. Once the upload is complete, Google Photos will show how many photos and videos have been saved to the cloud. If Wi-Fi is not available, the app will give users the option to continue the backup using mobile data.

This feature could be very useful for people who have thousands of photos and videos on their phones. It will help them back up their memories without having to keep the app active manually.

However, the Overnight Backup feature is still under development and is not available to everyone yet. Google is also testing another feature that could allow users to schedule backups for a specific time.
