Samsung secures 11.3% share in Q4 2023 semiconductor foundry market: Report
Samsung has been battling with TSMC for a long time to spot the first position in the chip market, and in Q4 2023, the tech maker continued to gain second place with an 11.3% share in the semiconductor foundry. While, TSMC has surpassed 60% market share, widening its gap between Samsung Electronics.
According to the report, the Q4 2024 semiconductor foundry market grew about 8% from the previous quarter in which TSMC’s sales increased while Samsung’s sales decreased. It’s worth mentioning that, TSMC has been in a commanding position for years in the chip market and it keeps growing its shares.
If we move toward the data, Taiwan held a 61.2% market share in Q4 of 2023, which is up 3.3% points from the previous quarter. The firm posted $19.66 billion in sales, which is up 14.0%. Whereas, the Korean tech giant’s market share stood at 11.3%, down 1.1% from the previous quarter. Its sales hit $3.619 billion, down 1.9% from the previous quarter.

Furthermore, the United States GlobalFoundries with 5.8% was the third, Taiwan’s UMC with 5.4% share slotted fourth, while China’s SMIC with 5.2% market share continued to retain the fifth position. Samsung brings new Virtual Space to Fortnite’s Sunset RP island
Samsung launched a new virtual space on Sunset RP in Fortnite. It comes as the company’s latest attempt to expand its gaming presence. Samsung is bringing a new virtual space to the newly added island named Sunset RP from Matilha Studio.
Sunset RP island has four quadrants on its map, and it is in the residential quadrant that the player finds SAM’s Mansion of Adventures. Visitors are welcomed by Samsung’s digital influencer, SAM, who provides players with a game item to activate the missions.
The Korean tech giant notes that players can access SAM’s Mansion of Adventures. It packs various products from Samsung and partners, all connected via SmartThings. Each product offers a special mission to the player, totaling five missions.
Upon completing all of them, the participant will return to SAM’s Mansion of Adventures to claim their reward. Additionally, it’s also possible to perform simpler activities inside the house and earn coins or even recharge energy to continue the adventures.

One UI 6.1 hits Samsung Galaxy A34 in Europe and Tab S8 series in India
Samsung is expanding the One UI 6.1 update to more Galaxy A34 and Galaxy Tab S8 series users. This update is now available in Europe for the Galaxy A34 and for the Galaxy Tab S8 series in India.
One UI 6.1 update brings enhanced features for photo and video editing, allowing users to improve images with AI suggestions and transfer elements between photos effortlessly. The update also simplifies searching for photos in the Gallery, making it more user-friendly.
The inclusion of the April 2024 security patch ensures that devices not only gain new features but also receive security enhancements. The fresh firmware also updates various Galaxy apps to their latest versions.

Samsung’s storm busted Apple in India’s premium smartphone market
IDC recently published its report on India’s various smartphone segments. In particular, the premium smartphone market in India witnessed Samsung’s storm in the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, Apple managed to survive but the margin was negligible.
According to IDC, Apple’s share declined YoY to 45%, while Samsung was a close second with a 44% share. The Galaxy maker had just 16% market share in the premium smartphone segment a year back. This rapid growth stunned the iPhone’s lead in India.
IDC analysts ranged premium segment between cost $600<$800. Models costing between was 2% overall shipments and declined by 21% in unit terms. During the first three months of 2024, key models were the iPhone 13, Galaxy S23FE/S23, iPhone 12 and OnePlus12.
The report mentions that India’s smartphone market shipped 34 million units in 1Q24. The country’s smartphone market grew 11.5% year-over-year, the third consecutive quarter in terms of growth. However, the super-premium segment is still dominated by Apple iPhones.
“Several new launches across multiple price segments happened during the quarter, coupled with increased promotional activities, particularly around premium offerings. Brands continued their focus on microfinancing schemes to drive affordability. eTailers organized several sales events and offered discounts on models nearing their end-of-life (EOL), resulting in increased demand and lean inventory,” said Upasana Joshi, Senior Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India.
