Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra: M13 LTPO OLED, On-device AI and more

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S24 series in San Jose, California, USA on January 17. The Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, are Samsung’s flagship smartphones and strategic products that will determine the direction of the mobile business this year.

The OLED panel used in the Galaxy S24 series is a major change from its predecessor. All Galaxy S24 models are equipped with LTPO OLED panels. This is a change that the company attempted, which differentiated itself by adopting LTPO only for the Ultra model and LTPS for the regular and Plus models.

The purpose of adopting all models of LTPO is to take advantage of the advantage of being able to realize high resolution while using less power than LTPS. Since the Galaxy S24 is equipped with on-device AI, a display with low power consumption is needed.

The Galaxy S24 regular model’s display will be 6.16 inches, and the Plus model’s display will be 6.66 inches, which is 0.1 inch and 0.05 inch larger than the previous model, respectively. All models are expected to be equipped with OLED screens with a brightness of up to 2,600 nits.

The Galaxy S24 series display uses a different set of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials than the Galaxy S23 series or Galaxy Z5 series released last year. The name of the newly adopted material set is M13, which consists of a light-emitting layer and an auxiliary layer material.

When the dopant and host emit red (R), green (G), and blue (B) light in the emitting layer, the prime increases luminous efficiency. Hole transport layer (HTL) and hole blocking layer (A-ETL) are auxiliary layer materials that help light emission.

Samsung trolls Apple over faulty iPhone alarms

Samsung Apple Canalys q4 2023

Samsung just trolled Apple over reports of faulty iPhone alarms. The company’s UK account posted the mockery Reels on Instagram, trolling Apple following reports from some iPhone users regarding the alarms problem.

It isn’t the first time Samsung is making fun of its biggest rival. The Korean tech giant doesn’t have sweet relationships with Apple’s iPhone business, as it’s the biggest rival internationally apart from the US leadership.

“Rest assured our alarms GO OFF,” the company writes (via TechRadar) in its latest meme-based Instagram post, adding in the caption: “Samsung users woke up on time today.”

Samsung has a long history of mocking Apple, which is refreshed with the latest incident. While the Instagram post doesn’t clearly mention Apple or iPhone anywhere, the subject of the meme-based post is a no-brainer.

iPhone Alarms Bug

Due to iOS setting issue, iPhone alarms are not working properly, some Apple users report. The iPhone maker acknowledged the issue saying “an issue causing some iPhone alarms to not play as expected.” The best part is the company is preparing a fix, which should be rolled out soon.
