Samsung Pay gains ability to store student ID cards

Today, Samsung announced that it has signed a business agreement with Hana Financial Group in order to strengthen the digital wallet experience at the headquarters of Hana Financial Group in Seoul. Now, Samsung Pay is capable of storing student and employee ID cards too.

As part of this fruitful agreement, Samsung Electronics, and Hana Financial Group promised to activate mobile ID functions such as student and employee ID cards, establish overseas payment systems, and cooperate on future financial service models through the Samsung Pay platform.

The student IDs from high schools affiliated with Hana Financial Group will be available through Samsung Pay. In South Korea, there are 108 high schools are affiliated with Hana Financial Group. Among them, it is possible to issue and use digital IDs sequentially, starting with schools that have agreed in advance.

If prior consent is made, the Samsung Pay student ID can be used the same as the actual card. For instance, if you can use the school meals and library with the barcode of your physical student ID, you can use the same with the student ID issued through Samsung Pay through the barcode.

After updating Samsung Pay to the latest version, you can use the student ID feature by registering the Hana Financial Group debit card linked to your student ID card to the application.

If a student ID is issued through Samsung Pay, the risk of loss is reduced compared to a physical ID. Meanwhile, both vendors plan to expand the scope of issuance in the future such as university student ID cards.

Samsung solidifies 15 years of leadership with record-breaking signage sales

Samsung today announced that it has ranked first in the global digital signage market for the 15th consecutive year. The company has solidified a decade and a half of market leadership with record-breaking signage sales.

Market research firm Omdia named Samsung the number one signage manufacturer for the fifteenth consecutive year. The report says Samsung led the global signage market with a 33% market share by selling over 2 million units.

Looking ahead, the global display signage market is poised for rapid growth, with an expected annual increase of 8% leading to a projected market size of $24.6 billion by 2027, up from $14 billion in 2020.

Samsung’s leadership in the digital signage industry can be attributed to its commitment to product and service innovation. We can take the innovative Visual eXperience Transformation (VXT) platform as a pretty good example.
