Samsung Malaysia has announced that it will stop supporting Boost QR payments on Samsung Pay from November 15, 2021. Boost became the first local eWallet to support Samsung Pay and was merged in March 2020. However, unlike debit card payments or this debt, you cannot use your NFC or MST phone feature to pay as it is based on the QR code system.

According to the announcement of Samsung Malaysia, all users will be required to perform a mandatory app update on November 15th but before that, all existing users with a connected Boost account on Samsung Pay can still use the QR payment feature.

Samsung also announced that from November 4, 2021, all Samsung Pay Reward points for Samsung Pay Boost will no longer be processed. Users can earn Samsung Reward points only through Boost if payment is made in Boost QR or DuitNow QR code issued by Boost. This means you cannot earn points if you scan the DuitNow QR code issued by other eWallets or local banks.

It is not yet clear why Samsung has decided to end Boost support for Samsung Pay. Although it provides quick access for Boost users to scan or display their QR codes, its use is still limited to merchants with Boost or DuitNow QR codes. Are you using Boost with Samsung Pay? In case you miss out, the government announced during the launch of the 2022 Budget that it will provide 2 million eWallet creditors worth R150 under the new eStart program. An amount of RM300 million will be allocated to this program which aims to develop a poor community.
