Samsung’s massive DDR5 512GB RAM modules are almost twice as powerful as DDR4
Samsung is among the products that will release DDR5 RAM this year and it looks like the manufacturer has an industry for the first time in its operations. During Hot Chips 33, an annual semiconductor disclosure event, Samsung unveiled its first DDR5 512GB RAM module. This new memory module is said to offer up to a 40% increase in performance over DDR4, combined with double capacity and low power consumption.
Although Samsung’s DDR5-7200 features a heavier design than previous DDR4 modules, the new stack weighs only 1.0mm, which is less than DDR4’s 1.2mm. The reduction in size was achieved through Samsung’s new wafer management process, which reduced the mortality gap by 40% and led to a significant reduction in altitude.

In addition to the smaller design, the new module will operate with lower power consumption. According to Samsung, the DDR5-7200 will run at 1.1V, which is only 0.92x of the power consumption used in DDR4 RAM.
DDR5 is greatly enhanced by the use of integrated circuits (PMIC) and volume control. It was also integrated with the High-k Metal gate process. Samsung claims that the use of PMIC has done more than just reduce power – and reduce noise.
New memory modules will include Same-Bank (SBR) upgrades. The DRAM bus is said to be 10% more efficient than its current DDR4 counterparts. Samsung has also upgraded its new RAM with a new resolution (DFE) rating to improve signal stability.
Samsung predicts that the major market will not exceed DDR5 RAM by 2023 or 2024. However, the manufacturer plans to start producing bulk DDR5-7200 512GB RAM later this year.
