How to use or change your Samsung Keyboard

Samsung keyboard gives you plenty of customization options to choose from, so that you can make your keyboard your own. You can change the layout, the languages it uses, and the size among other options to create your perfect keyboard. The keyboard on your phone should be as easy and convenient to use.

Basic navigation 

The Samsung keyboard has two separate toolbars. One gives you suggestions for predictive text and the other makes it quick and easy to send stickers, emoticons, and gifs. You can swap between them by tapping the icon on the top left of the keyboard.

  • Emoticon toolbar: Change the toolbar to select emoticons, stickers, and gifs.
  • Auto replaces suggestions: Tap one of these suggestions to choose it.
  • Auto replace options: Tap here to see more auto-replace suggestions.
  • Backspace: Deletes the last character you entered or the character before the typing cursor.
  • Enter: Start a new line of text.
  • Change keyboard: Tap this icon to change the keyboard you are using.
  • Spacebar: Insert a space into the text. This key can also be used to select the keyboard language.
  • Symbols keyboard: Change the keyboard to select a symbol. Tap the 1/2 key to see more symbols.

Tips: To swap to the Emoticon toolbar, tap the icon at the top left of the keyboard.

Here’s what you need to do: 

  • With the device unlocked, swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick Settings panel.
  • Tap the Settings icon. It’s the cog-like symbol on the right-hand side near the date and time.
  • Now find General management and then Language and input.
  • Under Keyboards, select On-screen keyboard and then Samsung Keyboard.
  • Here you will see the languages already selected for your device. To add more, just tap Languages and types and then Manage input languages.
  • Find your desired language and slide the toggle to activate.
  • With the keyboard displayed, simply swipe across the space bar to switch between languages.
  • To attach a dictionary, make sure you’re using the correct keyboard. Write, highlight, and tap a word and select Dictionary and follow the steps.

Changing the keyboard

The Samsung keyboard can be used in three different layouts to provide the typing experience that you find easiest to use. The standard keyboard uses the full width of the screen.

  • Open the keyboard.
  • Tap the options icon on the toolbar.
  • Tap Modes.
  • Select between the standard keyboard, one-handed keyboard, and floating keyboard.
