Samsung Autonomous Driving

Samsung reportedly puts a break on its autonomous EV driving research project. The company’s Advanced Institute of Technology division ditched autonomous driving from its research projects. This move comes after reports emerged citing Apple stopped exploring the EV business.

BusinessKorea reports that Samsung is putting a brake on the “era of autonomous EV driving.” Rather than autonomous driving, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology will shift development personnel to the robotics field as part of a selection and concentration strategy.

An industry insider stated, “Samsung Electronics following Apple in ceasing autonomous vehicle research appears to be due to the difficulties in technology realization and the lack of significant returns compared to investment.”

Earlier this year, Apple ditched its Apple Car development project. The company has also dissolved the Special Projects Group responsible for autonomous EV research. However, recent reports indicate Apple may reach an agreement with Rivian to continue its R&D on EVs.

Global EV makers, including Tesla, are facing scrutiny over fully autonomous driving. Elon’s EV company is under investigation by the U.S. Federal Prosecutor for “wire fraud” because of misleading consumers, and “securities fraud,” due to deceiving securities investors.

Samsung In&Out Flip Display

Samsung Display reached an agreement with Apple for foldable devices, Digitimes reports. The iPhone maker is expected to introduce its first foldable display product next year, with the first foldable iPhone likely to be released in late 2026.

According to the report, Apple signed an agreement with Samsung Display for foldable devices development. This input comes from the supply chain citing industry sources, via Digitimes. However, additional details are expected to be disclosed in the future.

Apple is ramping up efforts in foldable product development. Previously, there were rumors that the first foldable iPhone won’t be launched before 2027. However, a recent input via 9to5Mac revealed that Apple is set to commence mass production of a foldable iPhone in late 2026.

Apart from this, it has been reported that the US tech giant could start mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device in late 2025. Display supply chain source also disclosed Apple’s development of a 20-inch foldable hybrid device, set for a 2026 or 2027 release.

While Apple is expanding its business with Samsung Display, it’s a threat to Samsung Mobile in the Global market. Samsung currently dominates the foldable smartphone market, which would be significantly harmed by Apple’s entry into the segment.
