Qualcomm has today introduced the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile processor for premium Android smartphones. The company says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is able to provide images with 200MP quality through the collaboration with Samsung.

Back in June this year, Samsung officially launched the 200MP ISOCELL HP3 image sensor that brings a Super QPD auto-focusing solution and lets users capture videos in 8K at 30 fps. Qualcomm has used this ISOCELL HP3 image sensor in order to add 200MP support to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Sony and Samsung are two of the most popular image sensor manufacturers in the market. As per the market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA), Sony leads the image sensor industry with a 44% market share in the first half of this year, whereas, the Korean tech Samsung ranks second with a 30% market share.

The chipset maker has collaborated with these companies to meet its task to optimize Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and each image sensor. And, Samsung has finally made it possible to discover high-definition images by combining the 200MP ISOCELL HP3 with the new processor. Whereas, Sony, improved its HDR performance in two models, the ‘IMX 800’ and the ‘IMX 989’, which are quad exposure image sensors.

HDR technology takes multiple images and blends them to enlarge the range of contrast ratio. It helps make bright parts brighter and dark parts darker to produce a clearer subject. Sony’s quad-exposure image sensor synthesizes 4 images compared to the previous 2, therefore, it implements more excellent HDR technology.

Aside from these, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 adopts AI-based cognitive image signal processing, which provides a semantic segmentation function that improves the quality of photos and videos in real-time.

Qualcomm Vice President Jude Heep said – “In addition to the new camera function based on Qualcomm’s AI technology, we have improved the technology of photography through cooperation with Samsung Electronics and Sony.”

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G

Samsung has reportedly postponed the Galaxy F55 5G’s launch in India. New information suggests that the company will now reveal its new Galaxy smartphone on May 27. Meanwhile, all key specs have been revealed, with pricing remaining the mystery now.

Previously, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy F55 5G India launch for May 17 (today). While the official debut has now been delayed by 10 days, the company has listed the device with all the key specifications and features, while keeping the price unannounced.

Samsung’s F55 5G matches the specifications of the M55 5G and the design of the C55 5G. It sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s equipped with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

There’s a triple rear camera arrangement on the back, consisting of a 50MP main, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies and video calling, the Galaxy F55 5G packs a 50MP snapper, which is surprisingly a big deal in the segment.

Vivo X100 Ultra w/ 200MP Periscope beats Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Published

Vivo X100 Ultra

Vivo X100 Ultra is officially launched to challenge Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with a 200MP Periscope camera. Specs-wise, this smartphone outpaces Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 Ultra in terms of imaging capabilities, thanks to the custom Periscope sensor.

The new Vivo X100 Ultra comes with a 1-inch Sony LYT-900 main camera, and a 200MP periscope camera leveraging the 1/1.4″ ISOCELL HP9 sensor co-developed with Samsung. It’s notably the largest telephoto sensor fitted on a phone to date.

The Periscope introduces f/2.67 aperture and an 85mm equivalent focal length. Following its collaboration, Vivo brought Zeiss T* coating and Zeiss APO certification to the X100 Ultra, as part of delivering improved clarity and less fringing at contrast edges.

This monstrous zoom camera brings up to 3.7x optical zoom and 20% improved light sensitivity. Its telephoto macro (a.k.a. telemacro) mode offers 20x magnification. The company also introduced its BlueImage algorithm which was in development for eight years.

Vivo X100 Ultra

X100 Ultra’s 50MP main camera uses a 1/0.98” LYT-900 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 23mm focal length. It also supports up to 4K 120fps video recording and Dolby Vision support. Besides, the 3rd lens is a 14mm equivalent ultrawide with a 1/2″ 50MP LYT-600 sensor.

Galaxy S24 Ultra…

The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a quad rear camera setup. The module consists of an advanced 200MP primary sensor – ISOCELL HP2, an ultrawide camera, a 10MP Telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP Periscope with 5x optical zoom.

As the periscope camera is co-developed by Samsung, quality shouldn’t be questioned. This year’s Samsung flagship is equipped with a new 50MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. However, the 200MP periscope sounds pretty capable and powerful over S24 Ultra’s.
