Apple’s first foldable device could be called iPhone Duo and it could have a big advantage over Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed key details about the device just a few hours before the official reveal.

According to the latest reports, Apple iPhone Duo foldable could start around $2,000, while higher-storage versions may approach $3,000.

Apple is expected to position its first foldable iPhone firmly in the ultra-premium segment. The pricing would make it more expensive than the regular iPhone lineup, although that is hardly surprising for a new form factor.

Reports also point to storage configurations reaching as high as 2TB. That could push the most expensive version close to the $3,000 mark, making Apple’s foldable one of the priciest mainstream smartphones ever.

Apple is expected to unveil the foldable alongside its new iPhone generation on September 9, with availability reportedly following in October.

Apple Pencil could give it an edge

The more interesting part for Samsung users is reported Apple Pencil support. If confirmed, Apple would have a major productivity advantage over the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which does not support the S Pen.

Samsung dropped active stylus support starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and has retained that decision with both the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung says the hardware design prioritizes thinness and durability.

That leaves Apple with an opportunity to make its foldable large inner display more useful for handwritten notes, sketches and document work.

A $2,000 starting price will still be a tough sell, as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is available for $1,899 in the United States. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to succeed in shifting its loyal iPhone fanbase to the completely new form factor.

The hype surrounding the breakthrough hardware-based Polar ID face unlock system on the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may have been premature. New reports from tech tipsters on X indicate that “Polar ID” is unlikely to make its way into upcoming Galaxy flagships.

Tipster @kro_roe poured cold water on the reports, stating they found no active evidence suggesting Samsung plans to bring Polar ID, or any dedicated hardware facial recognition, to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The leaker added that Samsung does not appear to have plans to implement the feature and suggested the company likely views its current biometric hardware as sufficient.

Addressing the confusion, tipster @phonefuturist clarified how the rumor gained traction in the first place. Early tests involving Metalenz hardware were indeed conducted inside Samsung System LSI.

Because this marked the first time Samsung had experimented with Metalenz optics, industry watchers assumed the component was being prepped for commercial deployment in the S27 series.

Tipster @SPYGO19726 further noted that these internal tests took place last year, rather than early this year.

While Samsung System LSI’s research demonstrates ongoing interest in meta-optics and polarization sensors, a component tested in a semiconductor lab does not automatically translate to a green light from Samsung’s MX division.

For now, Samsung appears poised to stick with its proven ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners for flagship security.

Samsung may also be removing a telephoto sensor from the Galaxy S27 Ultra camera module. The aim is to control production costs and offer even better photography performance through a single telephoto camera sensor.

Samsung has unveiled a new budget smartphone, the Galaxy A07s in Jordan. It is a new version of the Galaxy A07. The main difference between the two phones is the processor. Samsung has added a faster MediaTek Helio G99+ chip to the Galaxy A07s.

The Galaxy A07s comes with a 6.7-inch PLS LCD display. The screen has HD+ resolution and supports a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling and animations smoother.

Samsung is reportedly working on a new budget smartphone, the Galaxy A08. The phone will be the successor to the Galaxy A07. A new leaked image has now given us an early look at the phone’s design.
