Samsung unveils crease-free screen, setting stage for Galaxy Wide Fold and Apple foldable iPhone

Samsung No Crease Foldable OLED Display

Samsung Display put its advanced foldable OLED screen at the CES 2026 showcase, revealing crease-free and under-display camera technologies.

Crease still remains the biggest weak point of foldable phones. Samsung is actively working on that aspect to make things better. The next wave of foldable phones may offer better crease control than existing models, via IceUniverse.

Crease-free OLED

Samsung unveiled the next-gen foldable screen, which is almost crease-free. The prototype shown at CES 2026 has no visible crease. It’s a major breakthrough for the foldable device portfolio, paving the way for more immersive experiences.

The upcoming Galaxy Wide Fold from Samsung and the Foldable iPhone from Apple are strong contenders for the new display solution.

Samsung is working on an alleged Galaxy Wide Fold model along with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. Apple also intends to bring its first Foldable iPhone this year, and it could land sometime after Samsung foldables.

Under-display camera technology

The panel has no punch-hole cutout for the front camera. A circular spot is visible at the top on the right side. The technology seems even more mature now, as the specific area doesn’t seem different from the entire screen.

Samsung introduced the UDC camera with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The company used to bring this solution through the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 dumped under-display camera along with stylus support.

Adoption of the display tech seems certain, but neither Samsung nor Apple confirmed it. The former is currently focussing on AI Home lineup and the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, while the latter is actively working on development.

Samsung to preview core elements of major One UI 10 redesign in interim One UI 9.5 release

Published

Samsung One UI 9.5

There’s a lot of discussion regarding the One UI 10 upgrade, its redesign and scope of changes, including the potential debut of Galaxy OS next year. Assumptions aside, Samsung owners know the fact that core elements of the major One UI 10 redesign will be seen in the interim One UI 9.5 release and it’s not too away from general debut.

Samsung is about to finish its One UI 9.0 update rollout. Android 17 is spreading fast across Galaxy phones, foldables, and tablets. The initial rollout has begun, and a broad expansion would take a couple of weeks to reach all eligible Galaxy models.

One UI 9.5 has entered an important phase, even though Samsung never dropped a single word about it. However, the backend process is running fast enough, as consumers are spotting some of the potential changes in One UI 9.0 itself.

One UI 9.5 vs One UI 10 is unlikely to have massive differences. Samsung’s playbook is predictable as it has already showed us how One UI 8.0 wasn’t the real major upgrade, but One UI 8.5 was and the same continued with One UI 9.0.

Samsung’s One UI 9.5 update

One UI 9.5 is under development for various Samsung devices. This version will also be based on the Android 17 operating system, just like One UI 9.0. However, it will actually be more important than the core OS upgrade itself.

Galaxy S27 series will launch with the new One UI 9.5 version. The company has also started firmware development for select models. Some existing Galaxy phones have also begun running internal test builds in Samsung labs.

One UI 9.5 changes and features [Leaked]

One UI 9.0 is a small update when it comes to visible changes. The performance and fluency improved for sure, but the user interface remains largely unchanged. The OS lacks the refreshment that Galaxy users expect in a major upgrade.

One UI 9.5 will fill the gap in user interface changes. Samsung is getting more time to tweak the Android 17 OS, and the official release window is late Q1 2027. That’s enough time to make UI changes and ship them out to the masses.

Samsung’s next interim release could adopt native icons for Dark mode. Here’s a preview:

One UI 9.0 components remain largely flat, but its x.5 version bump is rumored to introduce Liquid Glass-inspired user interface aesthetics. Here’s how they could look:

On the features side, One UI 9.5 may launch with an App Mirroring feature. The name could be different at launch; the functionality won’t. The feature will let Galaxy users wirelessly access their phone’s apps and notifications on their laptop.

Another small UI redesign may be seen on the fingerprint setup page. The UI above the fingerprint sensor would look more dynamic than before, enhancing the first registration experience. You can have an early look below:

App Lock has been in demand for years, and Samsung appears ready to bring it in 2027. With Google already testing it on Pixel devices through the QPR Beta channel, the Galaxy S27 series could finally introduce native App Lock.

Here’s a preview of App Lock from leaked One UI 9.5:

One UI 9.5 early preparations

One UI 9.5 leaks would return as we near the Beta Program. Samsung is indeed working to start the Open Beta Program by the end of the year. Preparations are already underway as we’ve given at least four major signs so far.

  1. Samsung’s Nearby scanning update mentioned One UI 9.5
  2. Samsung transformed the Members and Community experience
  3. A new One UI Beta banner replaced the existing banner
  4. Software update screen has been changed recently

Setting the foundation for One UI 10

One UI 9.5 will have much more to explore than One UI 9.0. Seasoned Samsung fans know that x.5 isn’t a minor bump, but a major one. x.0 updates now focus on installing the OS, while real Galaxy upgrades happen in the x.5 iteration.

Leaks aside, Samsung would surely be setting the foundation for the next big upgrade. One UI 10 is expected to debut on the Galaxy Z9 foldables in the third quarter of next year, and that will be built on the Android 18 operating system.

Rumors suggest Samsung and Google are working closely on an Android 18 experience tailored for Galaxy devices. One UI branding isn’t going anywhere, but the tenth-anniversary version would surely be epic, and the incoming interim update will surely bring early glimpses.

Do not rest on AI chip boom: Samsung leadership demands technology and quality focus

Published

Samsung Galaxy

Ahead of its 57th founding anniversary on November 1, Samsung co-CEOs Jun Young-hyun and TM Roh urged staff to strengthen technology, product quality, and operational efficiency rather than become comfortable with the AI chip boom.

Samsung reported KRW 195.25 trillion in revenue and KRW 107.44 trillion in operating profit for the third quarter of 2026, both quarterly records.

The semiconductor division generated KRW 106.5 trillion in operating profit, while the Device eXperience (DX) division recorded an operating loss of KRW 800 billion.

Jun, who leads the DS Division, called for stronger next-generation chip development, more efficient manufacturing, higher yields, and uncompromising quality. He also called for better collaboration, data-driven decisions and talent development.

“We must not forget the basics of the semiconductor business: securing next-generation technological competitiveness, advancing manufacturing efficiency, securing flawless quality, and improving yields.”

–  Vice President Jeon Young-hyun

Roh, who heads the DX division, wants Samsung to improve product completeness, quality and cost competitiveness while developing new opportunities in AI devices, intelligent eyewear, robotics, healthcare technology and automotive electronics.

“Above all, we must strengthen our market leadership by enhancing the fundamental competitiveness of our device business, including product perfection, quality, and operations,”

– President TM Roh

President Roh also called for an AI-native transformation across eight core business functions, including sales and logistics, to improve productivity, as reported by Korean outlet SBS News.

AI demand has created an exceptional financial opportunity, but sustaining it requires more than favourable market conditions. Samsung must convert its current earnings strength into lasting technological and product leadership.

Samsung expects mobile profits to fall; doubling down on TriFold R&D

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung mobile profits are set to slump further, but the company is not stopping experimenting with the next-gen TriFold device. The first model, initially released in late 2025, was produced in limited volume, but production would expand with the next version.

After Q2, Samsung Mobile profits declined in Q3 as well, with the company flagging KRW 800 billion operating losses. The memory supply shortage won’t be wiped out anytime soon as key clients secure long-term supply agreements.

Earnings guidance points to lower operating margins across the Samsung MX Business, driven primarily by cost pressures on memory and key semiconductor inputs that show little sign of easing in the near term.

Despite those impending financial constraints, Samsung confirmed (via SemiconductorsX) it is accelerating research and development into next-generation form factors, with particular emphasis on double-folding tri-fold displays.

That said, Samsung views advanced display leadership as non-negotiable to maintain its premium market share against aggressive expansion from Chinese rivals.

By keeping R&D spending locked on TriFold development while mobile margins compress, Samsung signals that it treats the multi-fold category as a necessary flagship evolution.

Pushing a tri-fold device from early lab prototypes into mass production requires heavy capital expenditure. The real test over the next year is whether Samsung can bring tri-fold manufacturing costs down fast enough to deliver a viable retail product.
