Galaxy S22 and Z Fold 5 enter the One UI 8 testing arena

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Z Fold 5 caught running One UI 8 on Geekbench. As the One UI 8 Beta is underway for Samsung’s latest flagships, older phones and foldables are also gearing up for the Android 16 upgrade.
Recently, a Galaxy S22 Plus and Z Fold 5 benchmarked on Geekbench (via Alfaturk), with a listing reveals both phones were running One UI 8. Last month, Samsung’s firmware server listed Android 16 firmware for the S22 Ultra.
Notably, the Galaxy S22 Plus scored 1466 and 3000 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests. On the flip side, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 managed to secure 1995 and 5055 points in the same Geekbench testing metrics.
Samsung is expected to open One UI 8 Beta for the Galaxy S22 series and Z Fold5. However, these devices are not in priority, also the Beta Program’s launch isn’t certain. The company may also bring them the official version directly.
In late May, Samsung published Beta Program notice boards for the S22 and S23 series. It’s an indication of Beta access for these flagships. It would take time as Samsung is currently busy in prep for the new products launching in July.
One UI 8 is going to be the last and second-to-last OS upgrade for the Galaxy S22 series and Z Fold5/Flip5, respectively. The Galaxy S21 series and Z Fold/Flip 3 have received One UI 7 as their last major upgrade earlier.

Samsung is set to unveil the Android 16-based One UI 8 next month. The new foldables will come pre-installed with this new OS. The company will expand the new features and enhancements to older models through firmware updates.
One UI 8 brings minor yet welcoming user interface tweaks. It’s just bringing the One UI 7 experiences to the next level. System-wide design improvements and blurred pop-up boxes are being added for a great appearance.

When’s Android 16 and One UI 8 Coming?
Google has officially released Android 16 on June 10, 2025, marking a significant improvement from the usual October timeline. Samsung officially launched the One UI 8 beta program on May 28, 2025, starting with the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in Germany, Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Samsung has now expanded the One UI 8 Beta program to include India and Poland with the Beta 2 release.
Samsung has confirmed that the stable One UI 8 update will debut on its “newest foldables”—the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7—expected to launch this summer. These foldables will be the first to ship with One UI 8 and Android 16 out of the box, likely in late July 2025.
For other Galaxy devices, the stable One UI 8 rollout is likely to follow shortly after the foldables’ launch. The Galaxy S25 series, which is already in the beta testing program, could see the stable update as early as August, with the S24, S23, and other flagships like the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 close behind.

Samsung Galaxy S24 took its first big step toward One UI 8 (Android 16)

Samsung is getting ready to release a new beta update for the Galaxy S25 series. Meanwhile, the first internal testing build of One UI 8 has been spotted for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This build hints that the One UI 8 Beta Program may soon be available for Galaxy S24 users as well.
A reliable tipster has spotted a One UI 8 testing build for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. The build number is S928BXXU4CYF7, indicating that Samsung has begun working on a major software update for last year’s Galaxy S series flagship phones.
Notably, testing is currently underway for the European and Indian variants of the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone. It’s expected that the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will all be included in the Beta Program soon.

After the first One UI 8 beta rolled out in late May 2025 for the Galaxy S25 series, many Galaxy S24 users have been waiting for their turn to try it. Since the beta is running smoothly on the S25 series and no major bugs have been found, Samsung may soon expand it to more devices.
If you own a Galaxy S24 phone, you can prepare for the One UI 8 Beta by taking a few simple steps. Make sure your phone’s software is updated to the latest version. Also, update the Samsung Members app, where you’ll receive the beta invitation once it becomes available. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated with the latest updates on One UI 8.

Galaxy S25 Edge won’t wait – One UI 8 rollout is nearly here

Samsung launched the One UI 8 Beta Program last month. The Galaxy S25 series is solely eligible for the One UI 8 Beta, but the S25 Edge is excluded. Meanwhile, Samsung has now started developing the major firmware for the slim device.
Tipster Alfaturk spotted that Samsung has started developing One UI 8 for the Galaxy S25 Edge. The first internal firmware spotted on the server is S937BXXU1BYF7. It’s an official build, which crushes Beta expectations, as for now.
Hearing that One UI 8 internal testing has also started for the Galaxy S24 series.
The Galaxy S25 series was released earlier this year, while the S25 Edge has just hit the market shelves a few weeks ago. The slim flagship comes with Android 15-based One UI 7 pre-installed, and it may skip the Beta for the next update.
Galaxy S25 Edge is a mix of the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra. The device features nearly identical display and dimensions to the S25 Plus, while the primary camera is equivalent to the S25 Ultra, making it a balanced mobile gadget.
Samsung hasn’t flagged overwhelming sales with the S25 Edge. The device has some drawbacks, such as the lack of a Telephoto camera, a smaller 3900mAh battery, and a high cost of $1200. These cons have hit the phone’s sales potential hard.
So far, the Galaxy S25 series has received two One UI 8 Beta updates. Samsung is going to unveil the official One UI 8 with its new foldables next month. We are expecting at least two more Betas for the S25 series before it gets Stable.
As for the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung may or may not launch the Beta Program. As the sales are low and the S25 series is already Beta testing the firmware, it’s comparatively easy for the developers to optimize One UI 8 internally without a public Beta.
Samsung’s One UI 8 is a crazy upgrade over One UI 7. While the UI changes are very minor, they make a great impact on the overall appearance. It will be worth upgrading your device to One UI 8 to unlock the extended potential of One UI 7.

Samsung’s outdated Watermark is holding back One UI 8’s pro camera appeal

Samsung’s elevating camera user interface in One UI 8, but the Watermark feature remains outdated. In a recent development, a Galaxy user slammed Samsung over holding back the Watermark upgrade since its inception.
With One UI 5, Samsung introduced the Watermark feature within the Camera app. It resides as a dedicated section within the settings of the camera app. The section has additional features to let you tweak the design and placement.
As One UI 8 is in the Beta phase, users are demanding a pro-level watermark feature. It’s worth noting that this particular photography feature remains the same in terms of functionality, as the first iteration – One UI 5.0.
The One UI 8 beta, running on Android 16, dropped for the Galaxy S25 series in May 2025. It’s got neat camera upgrades, like swipe controls for quick tweaks and sharper photos. But the watermark? It’s still pretty basic.
Right now, Samsung’s watermark is just plain text, like “Galaxy S25 Ultra.” Samsung fans think it’s boring compared to what other Android phones do. Brands like Xiaomi and Oppo add cool watermarks with camera info and fancy designs.

Image – Camera Watermark feature in One UI 7
People want the Korean tech giant to bake details like camera settings or location right into the image. It would look sharp and professional, especially when you are showing photos on a laptop or TV where you can’t swipe for extra info.
The call for a pro-level watermark reflects a broader desire for Samsung’s One UI 8 to compete with other Android OEMs. A visually rich watermark could elevate the photography experience for Galaxy users.
As the One UI 8 beta continues, fans are hopeful Samsung will deliver a watermark feature that matches the innovation of its camera hardware. The Android 16-based One UI 8 software will go official at the Unpacked event next month.
