Samsung retains its top position in global foldable phone market despite 10% drop: Report

Samsung has been leading the foldable phone market for years, and this time too the South Korean tech giant has retained its top spot in the global foldable smartphone market, but with a drop of 10%. While Huawei’s foldable phone shipments have risen to 12% resulting in a great success.

According to the report of TrendForce, the global shipments of foldable phones reached 15.9 million units in 2023, marking a 25% year-on-year increase and accounting for approximately 1.4% of the overall market.

To be mentioned, the foldable smartphone market growth of 2023 growth would be 43 percent higher than the previous year, when shipments hit 18.3 million units. But, the shipments are expected to rise to about 17.7 million units in 2024, growing by 11% and slightly increasing the market share to 1.5%.

However, this growth rate also remains below market expectations, with the segment’s share predicted to exceed 2% only by 2025.

Talking especially about brand performance, so the market share of Samsung has declined by 10%, it was 80% in 2022 and in 2023 it slipped to 70%, but despite having a drop, the Korean tech firm remains a leader in the global foldable phone market.

The shipment of Huawei foldable phones has risen to 12% and other brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have kept their shares below 10%. However, Samsung seems to be getting prepared for the 2024 foldable smartphone war with the development of its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z  Flip 6 devices.

Samsung Galaxy S24 May 2024 update Korea

Samsung rolled out the latest security patch for the Galaxy S24 series in India, Australia, Europe, and the US. Now the company is making the May 2024 security update available for Samsung Galaxy S24 in Korea.

May 2024 security update for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in Korea can be identified through the One UI build versions mentioned below.

  • Galaxy S24 – S921NKSS2AXE1
  • Galaxy S24 Plus – S926NKSS2AXE1
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra – S928NKSS2AXE1

The new update improves system security and stability to provide a better experience. This updates several issues users encountered in the previous update for error-free services.

Users need to go to Settings >> Software Update >> Download and Install option for update installation. Install the update to enjoy new and enhanced functionalities

Aside from this, Samsung is reportedly planning to launch an affordable model of the Galaxy S24 series – the Galaxy S24 FE. The firmware-bearing model SM-S721B number has been spotted on Samsung’s OTA database, which revealed that the Galaxy S24 FE smartphone’s software is under development.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, Fold 6 camera module suppliers revealed

Samsung smartphone camera suppliers witnessed sequential ups and downs in 2024. While Samsung remained the Samsung Mobile’s biggest camera module supplier, Patron has regained second place, and MC Nex jumped to third place in the first four months of 2024.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will have front camera modules supplied by MC Nex and CamSis, and rear camera modules supplied by Samsung Electronics, Patron, and Coreasia. The front camera modules for the Z Fold

6 will be supplied by CamSis and Powerlogic, and the rear camera modules will be supplied by Samsung (ISOCELL), Patron, Namuga, Powerlogic, Coreasia, MC Nex, and Samsung’s smartphone division.

In the first four months of 2024, Samsung is estimated to have topped the list of smartphone camera module sales with 760 billion won. Beating Powerlogic (now on 4th), Patron has regained second place and MC Nex rose to third after falling to sixth in 2023.

The following were the companies with the highest sales:

  • Patron: 270 billion won
  • MC Nex: 2100 billion won
  • Powerlogic: 1700 billion won
  • Sunny Optical (China): 1700 billion won
  • Namuga: 1500 billion won
  • CamSis: 1400 billion won
  • Truly (China): 900 billion won
  • Coreasia: 900 billion won

TheElec highlighted that Samsung’s camera module sales were higher than those of Patron, MC Nex, and Powerlogic combined. Also, Samsung was the supplier with highest average selling price, while the next highest were Sunny Optical, Powerlogic, MC Next, Patron, CamSis, Namuga and Coreasia.

After the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 smartphones, Samsung has started releasing an Android 14-based One UI 6.1 update for one more Galaxy A series smartphone – Galaxy A73. The update is currently live in India and Malaysia. The company will soon make it available in more countries.

Samsung Galaxy A73 smartphone users are getting One UI 6.1 update with One UI build version A736BXXU7EXDC. Users will have to download a 2.6GB package to install the update.

One UI 6.1 update unleashes more powerful features for creating, editing, and viewing pictures and videos. Users can easily enhance their pictures with AI recommendations, copy and paste from one picture to another, and more. Additionally, the improved Gallery search makes finding the right pictures easier.

The update includes the April 2024 security patch and upgrades several Samsung apps to the latest available version to enhance the overall performance.
