The most anticipated durability test by JerryRigEverything has arrived as soon as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 went on sale on August 7. As always, Zack didn’t wait long to conduct a one-of-a-kind brutal durability test on the latest foldable.

Zack’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 durability test has various stages, including a scratch test of the screen and body, dust and mud, flame test, bend test, etc.

Scratch test

Samsung has made its new foldable’s cover screen tough, as always. The panel stays scratch-free until the Moh’s level 5, with minor scratches starting to appear at level 6 and deeper grooves starting to show at level 7.

Well, the internal screen doesn’t stand at level 2 either. That said, the panel is vulnerable to anything expect of your finger tips. This is a technological limitation as the folding screen isn’t as tough as the cover panel.

Camera rings

Zack used his knife to scratch the frame and body of the device. Scratches appeared as expected, but the camera rings came out unexpectedly. They are simply glued to the phone’s body, but come out over time or by applying intense force.

Bend test

Galaxy Z Fold 8’s bend test involved bending the device in both folded and unfolded states. The phone passed the bend test like a champ. What impressed Zack was the bend test in the unfolded stage, which survived heavy bending pressure.

In addition, Zack also tested the screen resistance against flame using a lighter. Both the cover and internal screens developed permanent defects on the OLED.

Putting dust and mud on the screen and around the folding hinge area has also made no defect on the device, further cementing Samsung’s technological edge in folding devices.

Samsung is expected to launch its new Galaxy Tab S12 series in September this year. The series may include the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. Before the official launch, new renders have appeared online, showing the front design of both tablets along with wallpapers.

The renders shared by SammyGuru show that Samsung may keep the same design as the Galaxy Tab S11 series. The tablets are expected to have similar bezels around the screen.

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra may also keep the notch at the top of the display. Earlier reports said Samsung could use a punch-hole camera, but the new renders suggest that the notch will stay.

Samsung is also expected to bring new wallpapers with the Tab S12 series. The wallpaper has blue and purple colors with the letter “S” in the center. It gives the tablets a fresh and colorful look.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+ may have a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The bigger Tab S12 Ultra could have a 14.6-inch display. Both tablets are expected to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor and Samsung’s new One UI 9 software.

The Tab S12+ is expected to have a 10,600mAh battery, while the Tab S12 Ultra may come with an 11,600mAh battery. The Galaxy Tab S12+ and Tab S12 Ultra could be available in Gray and Silver colors.

Samsung could launch the Galaxy Tab S12 series in the coming weeks. More details, including the price and release date, should be announced soon.

Samsung Galaxy A18 could introduce a mix of three different tech eras, given its memory (RAM), chip, and operating system (OS). The budget smartphone may debut in October, and its 5G variant could follow in February next year.

Galaxy A18 is in development, but its early benchmark listing has already revealed its MediaTek chip with 4GB RAM and Android 17 operating system.

Well, the smartphone may not be as affordable as its predecessors. Memory crunch has already ramped prices across electronics, and the Galaxy A18 will not be an exception, but it remains to be seen how much it increases the cost.

As spotted by Alfaturk, the Galaxy A18 LTE scored 744 single-core and 2,064 multi-core points on the Geekbench 6.7 benchmark. The listing also revealed the device’s key specifications, which are a mix of three tech eras.

Galaxy A18 leak reveals MediaTek chip, Android 17 and 4GB RAM

Base Galaxy A18 could still feature 4GB RAM with 128GB storage. For context, the world’s first mobile device with 4GB RAM was debuted in the year 2015, and the capacity still lives on, thanks to the AI-driven memory shortage.

Next is the Helio G99 chipset, which MediaTek announced in 2022. Fabricated on a 6nm process, the chipset features two Cortex-A76 cores (2.2 GHz) and six Cortex-A55 cores (2.0 GHz), paired with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

Things turn interesting when Android 17 comes paired with that aged configuration. Samsung is already testing its next budget phone with the latest One UI 9 operating system, which is still in Beta on the Galaxy S26 series.

A handful of new Galaxy S27 rumors are emerging this weekend, signaling massive upgrades in display and performance aspects. The company’s next flagship lineup is entering a continuous leaks cycle right after the foldables’ debut.

X tipster Phonefuturist shared potential upgrades of the Galaxy S27’s Exynos chip performance and the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s OLED display material.

Galaxy S27 Ultra may adopt M16 OLED panel

Samsung is expected to utilize an upgraded OLED panel with M16 material set in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The same display may first appear in rival brands, including Google and Apple, with their Pixel 11 series and iPhone 18 Pro series.

Galaxy S27 Ultra may have a slightly better version. The tipster claims that the Ultra model may equip the E7 variant of M16 OLED, which “allows 30% of light to pass through” for better brightness while maintaining efficiency.

Exynos 2700 targets massive breakthrough

Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus may run Exynos 2700 chip, manufactured using Samsung’s second-generation 2nm process. The company reportedly targets to ramp the chip’s prime core frequency to around 4.0/4.2 GHz.

Additionally, Exynos 2700 is said to have an Instructions Per Cycle (IPC) rating of 0.97. These upgrades could ramp benchmark scores significantly, with Geekbench 6 score potentially hitting 3,900 points.

Galaxy S27 series – What we know

Samsung may launch four Galaxy S27 models, including a Pro, next year. The company plans to bring Privacy Display across the lineup. Meanwhile, memory crunch may not allow Samsung to upgrade DRAM and NAND standards.

Galaxy S26 series debuted in late February, and sales started in early March this year. Apple has reportedly postponed iPhone 18 to Q1 2027, which might lead Samsung to make some changes in its launch timeline.

OPPO may soon make a big change to the cameras used in its smartphones. A new report says the company is planning to replace Sony camera sensors with Samsung sensors in its upcoming mid-range and flagship phones.

The change is not just about saving money. The main reason is that Samsung has a strong lineup of 200MP camera sensors in different sizes. This gives phone makers more options to use high-resolution cameras in phones across different price ranges. Sony does not currently offer the same variety of 200MP sensors.

According to the report, OPPO could replace the Sony LYT-828 sensor with Samsung’s HPC sensor. The Sony LYT-808 may be replaced by the Samsung HPE, while the Sony LYT-700 could make way for the Samsung HP5.

There is also talk about Sony’s biggest mobile sensor, the LYT-901. It has not been confirmed which Samsung sensor will replace it, but the Samsung HPA is seen as the most likely choice.

The report also claims that OPPO is looking at other camera sensor makers for its cheaper smartphones. This would help the company offer more options while keeping costs under control.

With this, Samsung may enhance its position as a major camera sensor supplier. Apple already uses some Samsung-made camera sensors, and OPPO could now follow a similar direction. However, OPPO has not officially announced this change, so for now, it remains a rumor based on industry reports.
