Google is constantly improving its Pixel phones with new features and capabilities. The upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will have a powerful Tensor G3 chip, updated cameras, and new displays. Now, the latest information reveals that the Google Pixel 8 smartphones will also support USB DisplayPort alternate mode, a feature that many users have been waiting for.

However, this feature is already available for Samsung devices through Samsung DeX. It allows users to extend their phone as a computer-like interface by a connector that they can use for production and entertainment activities.

Anyways, USB-C is a versatile connector that can support different types of data and power transfer. One of its features is Alt Mode, which allows non-USB signals to be transmitted through the same cable. DisplayPort is one of the supported Alt Mode standards, which enables high-resolution video output to an external monitor that has a USB-C port.

How does it work?

USB-C cables have four pairs of high-speed wires, which can be used for USB data transfer or Alternate Mode. Depending on the device and the monitor capabilities, two or four of these wires can be used for DisplayPort Alternate Mode, leaving the rest for USB data transfer or power delivery.

Why is it useful?

USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode allows users to connect their phones to a compatible monitor using a single USB-C cable, without the need for adapters or dongles. This can be useful for productivity, entertainment, or gaming purposes. Users can also enjoy the benefits of USB-C, such as fast charging and data transfer.
