Samsung One UI 6 app user experience
Samsung’s collaboration with Google has resulted in a unified policy that it expects will create a more consistent and reliable UX for Galaxy users. Since One UI 6.0, foreground services of apps targeting Android 14 will be guaranteed to work as intended so long as they are developed according to the new foreground service API policy.
Google believes that its expanding partnerships with hardware manufacturers, such as Samsung, and these changes will make it easier for developers to create apps that work consistently across different Android devices. The company encourages you to try the new Android 14 APIs and share feedback.
With Android 14, Google (with Developer Preview 1) announced a trio of changes:
- “A new requirement to declare foreground service types and request type-specific permissions, which clarify when it’s reasonable to use foreground services.”
- “The new user-initiated data transfer job type, which makes the experience of managing large user-initiated uploads and downloads smoother by leveraging JobScheduler’s constraints (e.g. network constraints such as unmetered WiFi).”
- “New Google Play policies to ensure appropriate use of foreground services and the user-initiated data transfer jobs.”

Samsung Galaxy Book 4 series laptops will release in the US on February 26
After the initial unveiling in South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 series laptops will now be released in the US on February 26, 2024. Notably, the lineup consists of three models Galaxy Book 4 Ultra, Galaxy Book 4 Pro, and Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 that deliver an intelligent and powerful experience.
The Galaxy Book 4 Pro features Intel Core Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 processors, an Intel Arc graphics, and runs on Windows 11. It boasts a 14-inch and 16-inch AMOLED display, a backlit keyboard, a 2-megapixel webcam, and AKG quad speakers with Dolby Atmos.
While, the Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 includes a 360-degree hinge for tablet use, a 16-inch AMOLED touch display, and comes with S-Pen support. It shares the same processors and graphics as the Pro model and features Dolby Atmos and a backlit keyboard.

Samsung may have made Google its biggest rival in the smartphone market. Previously, Samsung considered replacing Google with Microsoft’s Bing as the default search engine on Galaxy devices. This attempt by Samsung may have triggered Google to seek Pixel boost for Android and Search.
According to a report, Google managed to achieve a milestone of selling 10 million Pixel devices in 2023. The company sets an ambitious target to exceed 10 million Pixel sales target this year as well. There are multiple motives for Google apart from expanding the smartphone business.
A source with direct knowledge told Nikkei Asia that keeping Google’s Pixel phone business thriving is important for the sustainability of its search engine and mobile operating system ecosystem when Huawei’s HarmonyOS user base is growing and Samsung attempted to switch default search engine.
HarmonyOS is a direct competitor to Google’s Android, which is growing rapidly. Whereas, Samsung is becoming a big threat to Google’s hold on its OS due to the highest number of shipments. We are also seeing Galaxy-exclusive Android features launching over the past two years.
Apart from this, the US tech giant has also told suppliers to start making its Pixel smartphones in India by the next quarter at the earliest to further diversify its supply chain away from China and capture the booming Indian smartphone market.
