Under-display camera iPhone might arrive, but Samsung’s 2025 move is a total reversal

Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus UDC or no front camera

Samsung is giving up on under-display camera technology in 2025, but Apple is reportedly preparing to bring this technology to the iPhone in 2027. Android phone makers are also considering UDC phones in the near future.

In a shocking development, it was revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may not feature under display camera. It’s going to be the same move as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which also ditched the UPC from the inner display.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 was the first Samsung phone with a UDC camera. The foldable phone features under-display camera technology integrated into the inner display. Samsung brought the UDC camera to the Fold 4, Fold 5, and Fold 6 as well.

On the flip side, a new rumor suggests that Apple might upgrade the iPhone with an under-display camera in 2027. Other Samsung rivals in the Android segment are also in preparation to adopt this advanced camera tech that offers a full-view screen.

While Samsung has tested UDC in three generations of consumer units, Apple and others are reportedly analyzing the technology in research labs. If development goes well, it will be seen in future products in the next few years.

Note that Samsung’s latest UDC move is still officially unconfirmed. The formal confirmation will arrive at the next month’s Unpacked but the anticipations for Apple and other vendors remain a rumor, take it as a pinch of salt.

Earlier, it was reported that Samsung doesn’t see much scope for improvements in the UPC. Even if it considers elevating the quality, it would come at a cost, which would make it an additional burden, raising overall production costs.

Therefore, Samsung appears to be ditching the UDC in 2025. This move will reduce the cost burden while elevating the camera quality. The punch hole camera is a widely admired solution for selfie snappers on mobile devices.

Galaxy S25 FE leak shows Samsung is finally taking it seriously

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Render

First render leak reveals Samsung seemingly ensuring the Galaxy S25 FE will look as premium as the Galaxy S25 series. The company’s next Fan Edition smartphone will launch later this year, and it could get a much-needed promotion.

Galaxy S25 FE render leak showcases Samsung’s next Fan Edition features thinner bezels. By looks, the device appears nearly identical to the Galaxy S23 FE and Galaxy S24 FE, while the display size matches the Galaxy S24 FE.

Leaker Onleaks (via SammyGuru) dropped the first set of CAD renders. The final design of the device is highly likely to resemble the one shown in the renders. The next FE is going premium, thanks to its thinner bezels surrounding the screen.

The Galaxy S25 FE is expected to be 161.4 mm tall, 76.6 mm wide, and 7.4mm thick. The dimensions of the next FE are marginally lower in all aspects of the Galaxy S24 FE, which is 162 mm tall, 77.3 mm wide, and 8mm thick.

With its 7.4mm thickness, the Galaxy S25 FE is going to be the sleekest FE model. The Galaxy S21 FE holds the crown of being the thinnest FE so far, but it would be shifted to the S25 FE, which reportedly is just 7.4mm thick.

Despite the difference in dimensions, the S25 FE retains a 6.7-inch screen. The company has managed to reduce the bezel thickness, which results in a more refined Galaxy S25 FE design, plus thickness reduction is indeed a bonus.

While the design department is getting refined, the camera setup may remain the same as the S24 FE. The device could feature a 50MP main lens with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, plus a new 12MP selfie camera.

The chipset area may feel dry as Samsung plans to reuse the Galaxy S24 line’s Exynos 2400 chipset in the Galaxy S25 FE. It is the mainstream chip, with the Galaxy S24 FE boasting an underclocked Exynos 2400e variant.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a slimness problem, it’s called Honor

Samsung Magic V5

HONOR is getting ready to launch its new foldable phone – the Magic V5. The company announced that it will be the thinnest foldable phone in the world. That’s a bold claim about Honor Magic V5, especially since Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just around the corner and is also expected to be really slim.

Right now, the OPPO Find N5 holds the record for the thinnest foldable at 8.93mm thick. HONOR hasn’t said exactly how thin the Magic V5 will be, but their last model, the Magic V3, was 9.3mm thick. So the new one will definitely be slimmer, maybe even beating OPPO’s record.

HONOR will officially unveil the Magic V5 on July 2 in China, which is just a week before Samsung’s big Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Flip 7 at that event. HONOR wants to get ahead by launching first and offering a strong alternative to Samsung.

The Magic V5 phone is expected to have a 200MP telephoto camera, a big 6100mAh battery with fast 66W charging, and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip inside. This phone might feature a big 8-inch display and a smaller 6.45-inch screen on the outside.

Some leaks have already revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a slim design, but with a noticeable camera bump. Since the frame is thinner, the camera setup on the back will stick out more. However, the exact thickness of the phone hasn’t been revealed yet.

Both the Honor Magic V5 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are expected to launch soon, so we’ll get more details about them in the coming days. That’s when we’ll also find out which one is slimmer.

Samsung Z Fold 7 Galaxy AI

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip FE may introduce permanent free access to all Galaxy AI features. This leak brings a breath of peace for Galaxy users, who can’t give up on AI features if they go paid or subscription-based.

Galaxy device pross release usually comes with a common footnote: Galaxy AI features are free till the end of 2025. This Samsung marketing raised concerns that the Galaxy AI may go paid by the end of this year, but it might not happen.

Leaker PandaFlashPro shed light on Samsung’s potential Galaxy AI and Gemini plans for the upcoming foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip FE. Let’s dive into the details of what could be coming:

Gemini Advanced

Like the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung will offer a free Gemini Advanced subscription with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and even the budget Flip model.

Gemini Advanced will be available for free for six months. You will also get 2 terabytes of cloud storage as part of a 6-month Gemini Advanced freebie with new foldables.

Galaxy AI – Permanently free!?

At Unpacked, Samsung might make it official that all Galaxy AI features will remain permanently free. If it happens, it will be a huge relief for existing Galaxy smartphone users, too, as AI features are quite popular among fans.

The leaker noted that Galaxy AI features like the Generative Edit, Live Translate, and Writing Assist tools will go permanently free. There’s a possibility of Samsung’s unveiling of some exclusive features that would be available as a subscription.

Z Flip 7 FE – Full Galaxy AI support

Samsung may give a full-fledged Galaxy AI treatment to its budget Flip phone as well. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is said to support all the AI and GenAI features like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7.

It’s not a surprising input as the company gave the same AI love to the Galaxy S24 FE. However, it’s great to see that there’s no AI trade-offs when users prefer buying a cheaper Flip model.

2027 iPhones to adopt Samsung’s advanced LTPO3 OLED in big display upgrade

Published

By

Apple iPhone 16

Apple is set to overhaul its 2027 iPhones with a power-saving Samsung LTPO3 OLED display upgrade. Reports suggest the company will use advanced LTPO, promising better battery life, especially for the ultra-thin iPhone Air.

The US tech giant has already tested LTPO3 in its 2024 Watch Series 10. The Samsung LTPO3 OLED display allowed for improved battery efficiency, and now Apple aims to bring it to 2027 iPhones. Samsung and LG Display are likely suppliers.

The new LTPO3 OLED applies oxide to the driving thin-film transistor, a key component that controls screen brightness. This shift reduces power consumption compared to earlier LTPO versions, which used oxide only for switching TFTs.

The iPhone 17 series, launching in late 2025, will use LTPO2 OLEDs with oxide on two switching TFTs. By 2027, Apple plans to upgrade to LTPO3, starting with the iPhone Air, which needs efficient displays due to its slim design.

Apple is expected to finalize its LTPO3 decision by Q3 2025, giving suppliers time to prepare for 2027 production. LTPO technology has evolved over time. The 2018 Apple Watch 4 used LTPO1 with one oxide switching TFT.

Samsung Display

LTPO2, seen in the 2023 Apple Watch Ultra 2 and iPhone 16 Pro, used two. LTPO3 marks a significant leap, with manufacturing LTPO3 displays being complex, requiring new equipment, potentially increasing the cost burden.

LG Display’s recent 1.26 trillion won ($920 million) investment, announced in June 2025, likely includes preparations for this technology. Samsung may need less investment due to its larger production capacity.
