Google Chrome Material you Address bar

When the user clicks on the address bar, it will no longer appear as a small pill-shaped container as it is now supported by Material You. Now the new shape is larger and more rectangular, in keeping with the Google Material You theme.

In addition to this, search results, websites and suggestions no longer appear as text on a light/dark background, but each web result or suggestion is now placed in its own separate card in Google Chrome.

Notably, the background of the card is slightly brighter than the rest of the screen to enhance search results. Compared to before, the new address bar design helps the page look less cluttered without having too much impact on how the Dynamic Color page is displayed.

As per the report 9to5Google, the Google Chrome Material You address bar reminds us of the integrated Pixel Launcher search. However, this time the design will also appear on Samsung Galaxy or other Android phones.

For now, Google Chrome’s Material You address bar redesign feature is currently being tested through the beta channel and the stable version is running in Chrome 109. This is a server-side update so it does not require any manual process. These changes will be reflected in Google Chrome once the feature goes live in user areas.

YouTube Premium Lite plan

YouTube is ending its cheaper “Premium Lite” plan that offered ad-free viewing for €6.99 per month. The plan was only available in some European countries including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden since mid-2021. This plan will be discontinued after 25 October 2023.

The “Premium Lite” plan did not include YouTube Music, offline downloads, or background playback, unlike the regular YouTube Premium plan. YouTube says the company is working on different versions of Premium Lite based on user feedback.

YouTube Premium recently increased its prices for individual plans to $13.99/month while family plans cost $22.99/month. YouTube has also been trying to block ad blockers on its platform.

Many users want a more affordable option to watch YouTube videos without ads. YouTube Premium Lite seemed to be a good solution, but it was not widely available. It is unclear if YouTube will launch a similar plan in the future.
