Samsung grabs over 70 percent of Apple iPhone 14 OLED orders

Reputed Korean media outlet reports that Samsung Display supplied over 70% of the OLED panels for the Apple iPhone 14 series. The company has taken the lead after setbacks at rivals LG Display and BOE, sources of TheElec claim.

As the US tech giant is likely to use more than 120 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series, Samsung Display is assumed to supply approx 80 million units for Apple iPhone 14 series models, followed by LG Display around 20 million units and China’s BOE around 6 million units.

It’s worth mentioning that the Apple iPhone 14 and 14 Plus equip low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panels. Moreover, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use low -temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT OLED panels.

The same report also points out that the Samsung Display supplies OLED panels for all four models, while LG Display is responsible for LTPS for the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14 model and LTPO for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max model.

The South Korean display manufacturer hopes to ship more than 60 million of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max models out of around 80 million. Notably, production problems at LG Display cleared the way for Samsung Display to grab the highest Apple OLED orders.

Samsung is all set to expand its budget smartphone lineup in India. The upcoming Galaxy M04 smartphone is appeared in new teaser posters which suggest that Samsung will launch the phone on December 9 at 12 noon in India.

These posters further reveal that the smartphone will feature up to 8GB RAM through RAM Plus feature and up to 128GB internal storage. Additionally, it will come with major software upgrade support for two years.

Furthermore, Samsung will launch the Galaxy M04 smartphone under INR 10,000 in India. The exact price could be INR 8999 as the poster mentions INR 8xxx, but we cannot confirm it right now.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Galaxy M04 could sport a 6.5-inch HD+ Infinity-V display with a 1560 × 720 pixels resolution, an octa-core MediaTek Helio G35 mobile processor, and a large 5000mAh battery.

It has a dual rear camera setup that may include a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth lens. Meanwhile, on the front side, there could be a 5MP selfie shooter. Aside from these, the phone should run Android 12-based One UI 4.1 out of the box.

Last but least, the company will offer at least two color variants to the users including Mint Green and Black. We might see more colors when the phone gets launched on December 9.

Apple has reportedly begun a 20.25-inch foldable product development project with South Korean display panel makers. As per the report, Apple has started the development of core elements and foldable technology, while, there’s no plan for commercialization until 2026 or 2027.

Since Apple has gradually increased the usage of OLED panels in its products, it’s now entering the foldable segment. TheElec sources revealed that Apple is working on a 20.25-inch foldable product project with major Korean parts makers. When fully unfolded, the product’s screen expands to 20.25 inches.

This huge screen size claim suggests that the product won’t be an iPhone or iPad, and the first foldable screen product of Apple could be a MacBook laptop. When folded, the device turns 15.3 inches, similar to a huge touchscreen tablet.
