Samsung under pressure as Huawei unveils revolutionary Tri-Fold phone worldwide

Huawei bringing its Tri-Fold phone worldwide is a severe threat to Samsung. Following its initial launch in September 2024, Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Tri-Fold has been announced in Malaysia (via HuaweiCentral), with sequential worldwide expansion likely.
Mate XT Ultimate is an immediate threat to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The former features a futuristic dual-fold screen, while the latter boasts a book-type foldable design. Huawei’s Tri-Fold costs a whopping RM 14999 (around $3400) in Malaysia.
Samsung is working on a Galaxy G Fold with dual-fold screen technology. The company’s tri-fold device is said to feature a dual inward folding design unlike Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which is comparatively more durable.
The Korean tech giant is rumored to unveil its tri-fold handset later this year or early next year. As Huawei’s product entered the global market, Samsung may have been feeling intense pressure given Mate XT Ultimate’s lead in the market.
This global reveal indeed puts pressure on Samsung’s product strategy. A tri-fold Galaxy is obviously in the works but a tentative release timeframe is unknown. However, we may shortly witness positive developments in the matter.
While Huawei nailed it with invention, the lack of Android/GMS is the biggest concern. Huawei claims to have a broad app ecosystem but the reality is different, the Android ecosystem is quite broad and connected with a vast audience.
It remains to be seen if the Mate XT comes with an EMUI based on Android 10. If it happens, the Tri-Fold device would run Android apps without Google services like Google, Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube.

Apple iPhone 17 Air is looking ultra-thin! Will it beat the Galaxy S25 Edge?

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and Apple iPhone 17 Air will clash in the smartphone market this year. The two companies are working on new devices with ultra-thin profiles, leading toward a new trend of slim smartphones.
The nearly final design of Apple iPhone 17 Air has been revealed by JonProsser. Apple seems all set to debut the next iPhone lineup with a Pixel-inspired camera bar. Well, it seems to be slimmer than its biggest competitor, Galaxy S25 Edge.
Earlier, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station made a similar claim about the iPhone 17’s design language. The vanilla model may look similar to the iPhone 16, while the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro lineup would switch to a new design.

The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be around 5.5mm thick. In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge would be slightly thicker at 5.84mm but get dual rear cameras including a 200-megapixel primary camera, and a modern punch-hole display.
Galaxy S25 Edge may launch around April, while the iPhone 17 Air would debut in September this year.

Samsung Galaxy A36 official-looking images leak ahead of US launch

Samsung Galaxy A36 5G’s design has been revealed in official-looking images. Earlier, we saw a set of renders of the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26. Now, the latest leak showcases the only mid-ranger coming to the United States.
Recently, ytechb revealed official-looking images of the Samsung Galaxy A36 5G. It could be introduced alongside the Galaxy A56 and A26 next month. However, Samsung is expected to only bring the A36 to the US market.
The upcoming phone is shown in Black, White, Light Purple, and Green colorways. Samsung would market these hues with an “Awesome” prefix. The bezels are slightly thinner than the A35, while the chin is comparatively thicker than the side bezels.
In addition, Galaxy A36 5G retains a modern Infinity-O display. The rear side is getting a design revamp, bringing a dedicated camera island for the three image sensors to be placed, while the LED flash is located outside the island.

Samsung is expected to bring some new Galaxy AI features to the A56 and A36. The company has also trademarked “Awesome Intelligence” with authorities, which aligns with a potential debut with the upcoming Galaxy A phones.
Galaxy A56 will use a new Exynos chip, while the A36 is expected to feature a mid-range Snapdragon chipset. The performance will be superior on the former but the latter would have an edge over rivals with the Snapdragon chip.
Samsung hasn’t yet officially confirmed the upcoming A series phones. If history is any indication, the Galaxy A56 and A36 might be unveiled next month, featuring One UI 7 with Android 15, which is awaited by flagship models.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7: 200MP Camera, durability and display upgrades rumored

Plenty of Samsung rumors shed light on potential upgrades of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. This year, the company is set to diversify its foldable lineup with the addition of new form factors and offerings to extend the user base.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 with some minor yet shocking upgrades. The company’s first affordable flip smartphone may also join the Fold 7 and Flip 7, likely to be unveiled around July this year.
Several rumors suggest potential upgrades in display, camera capabilities, and design refinements. The upcoming Samsung foldables could flaunt highly efficient displays, offering lower power consumption and improved battery life.
The Z Fold 7 running Snapdragon 8 Elite has secured a battery life increase of around 55 minutes in internal testing. The current prototype device also boasts a 200MP camera sensor, however, it’s not confirmed to be commercialized.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 could feature only minor design changes, possibly including a flat frame and camera rings similar to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to receive more substantial upgrades.
The phone’s hinge may be improved by a new structure along with a less visible crease. This model may also get a more efficient display, new flexible glass, ProScaler technology, a larger vapor chamber, and a next-gen ProVisual Engine.
It could also support slightly faster charging at 25W speed, and a thinner body. Interestingly, the Z Flip 7’s crease is rumored to be less noticeable than the Z Fold 7, while both models could boast the next-gen Armor Aluminum frames.

Samsung Galaxy G Fold (Tri-Fold) to launch in select markets with crease concerns

At the Unpacked event last month, Samsung teased the tri-fold as a future product. The device is expected to be released later this year or early next year. A new leak sheds light on the Samsung Galaxy G Fold (Tri-Fold) phone’s availability and crease.
According to the info, Samsung may not launch the Galaxy G Fold (Tri-Fold) in all countries. It could follow the same approach as the Galaxy Z Fold SE. The crease may also have no improvements over the existing flip and fold models.
The leaker didn’t reveal specific markets where the tri-fold could go on sale. The phone’s cost may limit its sales scope, while durability remains to be the biggest concern. Samsung has reportedly planned a very limited production run.
Huawei is set to globally launch the Mate XT tri-foldable phone tomorrow. The Chinese phone maker is bringing its epic innovation outside mainland China. Samsung’s tri-fold may have a different foldable design method than Huawei’s.
Samsung has reportedly opted for a dual inward foldable design. Huawei’s Mate XT was accused of display damage complaints in the initial days of sales. Samsung’s development is centered on offering a durable and efficient product.
Meanwhile, the company is planning to launch three foldable phones around July this year. Rumors suggest that an affordable Flip phone would be made official alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7.
During the earnings call, Samsung promised a diverse set of foldables this year. Even though the tri-fold misses its rumored Q4 debut, the product isn’t far now and Samsung would indeed impress the industry with its Mate XT killer.
