Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong

Feb. 7 | Just In: Samsung Boss continues to face legal troubles in the 2015 bribery case. The latest information suggests that the prosecution will appeal the recent acquittal of Samsung Chairman Jay Y Lee in the Supreme Court.

Original story (published on Feb. 3) as follows

South Korea’s Seoul High Court acquitted Samsung chairman Jay Y Lee in an appeal over fraud charges.

Recently, Seoul HC’s Criminal Division 13 ruled Lee not guilty of all 19 charges including violations of the Capital Markets Act and the External Audit Act, as well as breach of trust.

Prosecutors had argued that the merger between Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries was unfairly conducted to “facilitate Jay Y Lee’s succession and strengthen his control over Samsung,” however, the court dismissed this claim.

Following the ruling, Chairman Lee’s legal team expressed gratitude, stating, “This case has dragged on for an extremely long time, both during the investigation and trial. We sincerely appreciate the court’s wise judgment.” They added, “We hope this ruling allows the defendants to fully focus on their respective roles moving forward.”

The court further elaborated, “While it is true that the merger contributed to Lee Jae-yong’s control over the group, this was not the sole purpose. The merger had legitimate business objectives. Ensuring management stability is not inherently unlawful, and without evidence of additional illicit actions, the timing of the merger alone cannot be deemed illegal.”

Google Gemini

Google has released a major update to its Gemini AI assistant, which allows it to work with Extensions directly on the lock screen. This feature was first introduced in July 2024, when Gemini could be accessed without unlocking your phone.

Now, Gemini can do much more on the lock screen. You can ask it to play a song on YouTube Music, send a message on WhatsApp, control your Google Home smart devices, or even get directions on Google Maps, all without unlocking your phone. However, some tasks required unlocking the phone, which limited its use.

You can easily able to use Gemini’s features directly from your lock screen. To use this feature, you need to enable Gemini Extensions.

For that, open the Gemini app, go to the Extensions section, and choose the services you want to use. Then, go to Settings in the app, find Gemini on the lock screen, and turn on two options – Use Gemini without unlocking, and Make calls and send messages without unlocking.

This new feature makes it much easier to use your phone on the go. You won’t need to unlock your device just to play music, send a quick message, or control smart devices.
