Recently, Google has released a new update for the Google Messages beta, which comes with several bug fixes and stability improvements. In addition to this, this beta update carries version number 10.8.260 and package size of 89.38 MB.
Meanwhile, a report (via-xda) revealed that the company has introduced a new feature called “nudge” in the Google Messages app. However, this feature is not yet ready for all users, as it is available only for a select few. This feature will help you master important conversations by sending them reminders to respond.
Google Messages nudges feature
As mentioned above, the nudge feature appears to be rolling out with Google Messages version 10.8.260 beta. However, this is most likely a server-side rollout as some users are seeing this feature on version 10.6.240 as well.
How to use?
In any case, if you want to nudge, download the latest beta version of Google Messages from the Play Store. Users can activate the featureby following the steps mention below.
- Go to Phone’s Settings
- Click on General
- Now, tab on Suggestions
- Finally, click on Nudge. Here you find two options:
- Suggest reply reminder
- Suggest follow-up reminder.
The first option, when enabled, automatically displays “messages you might have forgotten to respond” to at the top of your inbox. Meanwhile, the second option will take your attention to “messages you may need to follow up on.”
Other than this, Google Messages is the official application created by Google for texting (SMS, MMS) and chat (RCS). It allows messaging anyone from anywhere with the reliability of texting and the richness of chat.
A few months back, it also received Material You, which includes a new pill-shaped search bar, a rounded rectangle floating action button, and support for Android 12’s dynamic wallpaper-based themes.

Google Messages app now lets you use any emoji for reactions
Last year, Google Messages get the ability to react to messages using an emoji. However, the reactions were limited to a few emojis and it was not enough. Now to meet users’ demand, Google is finally letting its Messages app users use any emoji for reactions.
The company first started testing the ability to react with any emoji on a text in November 2022. This feature was limited to beta testers of the application but now customers of the stable version of the Google Messages app can also use any emoji for messages reactions.
Message reactions are a convenient way to express your emotions or sentiments on a particular message. Presently, most messages application, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Instagram, and more, has this feature. So why should Googe Messages stay behind?
To use this feature, users need to long-pressing on an SMS text or RCS chat and tap the new ‘plus’ symbol at the end. Here you will see the emoji picker built-in to Messages. There is also a search field at the top and 10 categories below. The emoji sheet will expand, with recently used emojis at the top, as you scroll down.
Google has started rolling out a new update for its Messgaes application for all Android smartphone users widely (via 9To5Google). However, the update might have not reached everyone at the same time, some users should get it in the coming days.
