Google rolled out new Material You design changes for Chrome and Gmail

Published

on

Google Chrome 94

Google has just released Chrome 94 and is bringing a lot of improvements, including a new feature to take scrolling full-page screenshots of web pages. Now, we learned that the development of Chrome 94 also brings a new version of Material You to the app. Along with Chrome, Gmail for the Android app on Chrome OS also has a few things to change.

As reported by 9to5Google, Chrome now offers Dynamic Colors support, which means the UI elements within the app adapt to the prominent colors in your phone’s background image.

For instance, if your background image has a large sunflower, the app will create a color palette with a yellow pastel version and use it as an application background instead of the traditional white or black color.

The update also changes the way a few icons or buttons look within the Chrome app. For example, the UI tab switch within Chrome has made minor changes. The tabs are now indicated by rounded corners and are slightly larger. The upper part of the tab that calculates which website is open also supports Strong Colors.

For older devices that do not have Strong Color Support, the background of the tab is gray, and the selected tab has a blue background. On Android 12, the back of the tab page takes the bright color of the previously opened webpage.

The Gmail app in Chrome OS has also been updated with a new app icon and Material You changes. Previously it was attached to the look of Gmail without the renaming of Workspace. Now, this update has made its way to the app with Version 2021.09.10.397347674, as reported by 9to5Google.

Surprisingly, the Google Meet and Chat integration we saw in the Gmail app on both Android and iOS is not included in this version of Chrome OS. There is no option to switch to black mode within the app again. This version only includes small design tweaks and Material You redesign. If you have a Chromebook, you should get an update of the Gmail app via the Google Play Store.

Whatsapp locked chats issue

WhatsApp has released an essential update for its beta users, which fixes an issue with locked chats and filters. The new update is available through version 2.24.19.35 on the Google Play Beta Program.

The fresh beta update addresses an issue found in the previous beta version, 2.24.19.16. This beta version brought the Meta AI Assistant feature to help businesses by providing personalized insights and creating content for their catalogs, including images and ads.

However, users of this update encountered a major issue as the locked chats and chat filters stopped working properly. Mainly, users found that locked chats were missing from their interface, and they could not use filters to manage their conversations.

Several WhatsApp beta testers tried to fix the problem by restarting their devices or force-stopping the app, but these actions did not resolve the issue. This bug makes it difficult to access important conversations and navigate through messages.

Fortunately, WhatsApp has now fixed the issue with locked chats and filters through its latest beta update. After installing this update, users can once again access their locked chats and use chat filters.

If you are also testing the WhatsApp beta version on your Android devices, install the latest update to enjoy a smoother and error-free experience.

Gemini Live AI magic now free for Samsung phones

Published

Gemini Live goes free for all Android phones including Samsung Galaxy. This magical AI feature debuted during the Pixel 9 series unveiling. Google officially announced the expansion of its mobile Gemini app in English for Androids.

Samsung and other Android phones can now access the Gemini Live feature for free. The AI magic allows them to have free-flowing conversations on any topic or brainstorm ideas. At the time of launch, it was only available for Gemini Advanced subscribers.

Google noted (via AndroidCentral) that Gemini Live will be available in ten different voices to enhance conversational experience. Gemini app users can head to the Google Play Store, download the Gemini app, and look for Gemini Live.

Conversations with Gemini Live can also be downloaded as transcripts. It’s great to witness Google opening up its latest AI advancements for the entire Android ecosystem. It’s another reason why Apple should have opted for Gemini, rather than ChatGPT.

We expect the Galaxy S24, S23, and S22 series will start getting the update soon. The rollout has begun but availability will expand gradually. We assume a broader availability in the next couple of weeks, including iOS devices too.
