All Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 UTG supplied by Germany’s Schott

On August 11, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 were unveiled, featuring a number of futuristic technologies such as water resistance, S Pen support, and under-display camera. Just after their launch, the details regarding their parts production have started to surface online.
According to TheElec, German Schott has won the competition with the US tech giant Corning to supply most of the UTG (ultra-thin glass), which is used for the surface of Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 foldable screens.
Previously, the UTG glass for older Galaxy Z series phones was solely supplied by Schott, but Corning has been added as a supplier to supply some of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 screens this year.

The report further revealed that the thickness of the screen glass of the two new machines is 30μm, but SCHOTT’s glass is 30μm after production, while Corning’s glass is 50μm, and additional cutting processes are required to reduce it to 30μm.
The new version of UTG glass is stronger, but still more fragile in order to enable the S Pen support on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, Samsung has also made a special design for the brand-new stylus, with a spring added to the nib for buffering.
It’s noteworthy that the Korean tech giant is considering increasing the thickness of UTG glass to better protect the screen from S Pen damage in the future. Meanwhile, the company has developed a glass with a thickness of 60 microns but it has to solve the problem of the durability of the folding screen.

Don’t wait for One UI 6 on these Samsung smartphones

It’s not possible for any smartphone maker to provide users with never-ending software support. With Android 13, various Galaxy devices ended major upgrade support, and the same case will happen with One UI 6 for some popular Samsung smartphones.
Preparation to deliver 2023’s Android version is already underway by Google. While Pixel users have started experiencing the Android 14 OS through the Beta Program, Samsung didn’t see that side. However, the company is running the One UI Beta Program, which started on August 10.

This year, popular Samsung flagships such as Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series won’t receive the One UI 6. Both lineups have finished their striking era of continuous software upgrades, still, an additional year of security patches is remaining.
Samsung has always remained the king of after-sales services to Galaxy consumers. Presently, the company provides up to four years of major OS upgrades, which will be extended further for the time being. It has also raised the bar of security updates to five years, letting consumers keep their phones longer.
Citing sadly, but don’t wait for One UI 6 on these Samsung smartphones:
- Galaxy S20
- Galaxy S20 Plus
- Galaxy S20 Ultra
- Galaxy S20 FE LTE/5G
- Galaxy Z Flip – LTE/5G
- Galaxy Note20
- Galaxy Note20 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold2 5G
