WhatsApp will allow transferring your chat history from your iPhone to Android

WhatsApp finally makes it possible to transfer your WhatsApp chat history from your iPhone to an Android phone. According to the information, the iOS-Android migration tool coming to WhatsApp in April, but there were no confirmations from the Facebook-owned company until yesterday. But now it’s officially introduced, that this feature exists and will come first in new Samsung’s brand new foldable devices.

During the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung revealed that users who will switch from iOS to Android will be able to bring their WhatsApp data, including conversations to the media, to the Galaxy smartphone.

Samsung showed this via iPhone transferring WhatsApp data to Galaxy phone via USB cable.

“For the first time on any Android smartphone, you can securely transfer your WhatsApp experience — including your conversations and photos — from your old iPhone to your new Galaxy smartphone.”

WhatsApp soon confirmed that this new migration tool will allow data transfer from iOS to Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. There will also be other Samsung devices running Android 10 and higher “in the coming weeks.” However, WhatsApp did not disclose when the feature will arrive on other Android phones.

How to transfer/move your WhatsApp data from iPhone to Galaxy smartphone?

To transfer your WhatsApp data from your iPhone to a Galaxy phone, you’ll need a Lightning to USB-C cable. Note that if you have two different WhatsApp backups (one in Google Drive and one in iCloud), the new transfer tool will not integrate them. Instead, what happens when you transfer your WhatsApp data to an Android phone and restore it, a new backup will override your old Android backup.

While users don’t know when WhatsApp plans to release the “Move chat to Android” feature for non-Galaxy phones, it may come next to Google’s new “Switch to Android” app for iOS.
