At the I/O 2021, Google and Samsung announced the integration of Tizen OS with the Wear OS in order to develop a unified wearable platform. Now, it’s confirmed that the next Galaxy Watches will run Google’s Wear OS. So, what about the Tizen OS, is it discontinued?

No! Samsung has recently disclosed that it’s own developed Tizen OS will live on, and it will continue to come with future smart TVs. As the Tizen OS is widely used in Samsung’s smart TVs, some media reporters asked whether the company will also abandon this system on TVs or not.

Samsung official explained that its partnership with Google only resolves around smartwatches, and has nothing to do with Tizen OS on Samsung TVs. “Tizen still is the default platform for our smart TVs going forward,” said a Samsung spokesperson.

According to the company’s data, last year, its smart TV sales accounted for 31.8% globally, maintaining its position as the world’s largest TV brand for 15 consecutive years. Furthermore, 12.7% of global smart TVs were equipped with Samsung’s Tizen OS, which is the most used smart TV operating system.
