October 2026 One UI 9 update arrives for Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung’s latest October 2026 security update has just gone public for the flagship Galaxy S24 series. The month is about to end in a couple of days, but the company has started patching its popular flagship lineup released in 2024.
Users of Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra are the first to receive the October 2026 security update in South Korea. The Fan Edition, Galaxy S24 FE, could join the party with the mainstream models in the next few hours or days.
Note that this is an initial rollout, which could take a few days to go global. At present, only Korean consumers are getting the over-the-air update. Expect up to 83 patches on the base and Plus, and 79 on the top tier Ultra version.
Build versions:
- S921NKSS6EZJ1: Galaxy S24
- S928NKSS6EZJ1: Galaxy S24+
- S928NKSS6EZJ1: Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung has recently released the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update. The broader expansion is already underway, but the company went ahead and dropped the first security booster for the flagships back home.
One UI 9 already improved security and privacy status, but the October patch was absent. Thanks to this minor OTA, users of the three flagship phones are receiving the latest Android and One UI patches detailed this month.
A software update notification will pop up as you use your device. Meanwhile, you can trigger the update manually to speed up the process. To do so, open SETTINGS > SOFTWARE UPDATE > DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL.

Got an Android update from January 2027? Samsung, Google hit by weird date-stamp glitch
Samsung and Google are good at providing monthly security updates within the patch month. Meanwhile, some Android smartphone users, including Samsung owners, are seeing an Android update from January 2027, even if the month of October 2026 hasn’t ended.
January 2027 Android update in October 2026
Google may have already been testing the January Play System update for Android devices, but rolling it out to Samsung users looks strange.
Community posts and social media posts from Reddit, Facebook, and X revealed that Samsung owners aren’t alone in having the January 2027 GPSU, but it has appeared on Motorola, Nothing, and OnePlus devices.
One more thing to note: the GPSU dated January 2027 doesn’t appear on a specific software. Some users received it on Android 17, while some budget phones, like the Galaxy F17, received it on Android 16-based One UI 8.5.

We looked at the official GPSU Release Notes website to see if Google published the changelog for the January 2027 release. However, the release notes page stays at October 2026 GPSU, which was refreshed with new content on October 19.
Notably, Google’s own Pixel phones haven’t yet received the January 2026 GPSU. This raises questions about the credibility of the patch provided to others.
An early rollout of future software can cause serious issues on consumer devices. If it’s landed in production due to a mistake, it must be pulled at the earliest.
Meanwhile, users found no functional issues after installing the January GPSU. The update seems to have tweaked the version number, rather than deploying the patch contents from January.
How to check the new GPSU
On your Samsung device, you can check for the Google Play Services updates manually. Simply navigate through Settings > Privacy and security > Updates > Google Play system update.
Google may have already stopped the rollout to consumers, and a future GPSU update would bring the versioning back to a normal state, which could be September/October 2026.

Users of Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are starting to receive patches targeting October 2026 Android vulnerabilities in South Korea. This is important news for Global users as well, as the expansion will cover them next.

Software build versions:
- S938NKSSDDZJ2: Galaxy S25 Ultra
- S936NKSSDDZJ2: Galaxy S25 Plus
- S931NKSSDDZJ2: Galaxy S25
If you are in Korea, check for the latest update now through Settings > Software update > Download and install.
Before the October patch, Samsung offered the major Android 17 upgrade. That release happened with the latest One UI 9.0 version worldwide. Samsung first dropped that build in Korea and expanded across Global markets.
October patch is the first build atop One UI 9.0 on the Galaxy S25 series. This not only improves system security but also refines the entire software system, which just welcomed a major shift from Android 16 to Android 17.
One UI 9.0 is here; One UI 9.5 is next
Samsung is already working on Android 17-based One UI 9.5. The firmware is in development for a handful of existing models, including the Galaxy S26 series.
One UI 9.0 installed plenty of Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S25 series, such as Call Brief, Custom Cards in Now Brief, and My FanCam. One UI 9.5 is expected to elevate the user experience built on the foundation of One UI 9.0.
