Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may introduce 4-part camera overhaul

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may launch with a 4-part camera overhaul next year. The company is internally working on the next-generation flagship phones, with a new Pro variant also joining the S-Series in 2027.

Galaxy S Ultra has always been a camera monster, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be no exception. Samsung offers incredible photography with its Ultra flagships and the next year’s device will raise the bar further.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed the next flagship, nor revealed what it’s cooking, but rumors do.

1. Redesigned camera housing

Galaxy S27 Ultra will bring a major change to its design on the rear panel. The device will adopt a prominent camera bump on the back. Netizens, including Samsung fans, are mocking the new design due to its iPhone familiarity.

The placement of sensors will remain unchanged, but the vertical Ambient Island will become a full-size island on the back. It will also end the wobble effect which occurs while placing the device on the table.

2. Simplified telephoto setup

Galaxy S2x Ultra phones have been offering a dual telephoto setup for years, but it will change in 2027. Samsung is all set to drop one telephoto sensor and double down on the periscope to offer zoom photography.

The legacy 10MP telephoto that features 3x zoom will be dropped. Samsung is retaining the 50MP sensor, which supports 5x zoom.

Rumors suggest Samsung may adopt a new periscope sensor from Sony. The alleged camera could offer 4x optical zoom range, while other rumors say the periscope would be recycled.

3. Ultrawide camera from Sony

Samsung could replace the ISOCELL sensor from the ultrawide module in favor of a Sony-made IMX sensor. Reports suggest that the Galaxy S27 Ultra may come with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX855 sensor.

Galaxy S26 Ultra’s ultrawide camera also features 50MP resolution. However, the Sony-made camera is expected to offer even more detailed and vibrant pictures. The new sensor may also produce better shots in low light.

4. New 16MP “square” selfie camera

Apple introduced Center Stage selfie camera tech with the iPhone 17 series. The sensor is advanced enough to capture horizontally oriented selfie without tinting the phone.

Samsung is reportedly bringing a new 16-megapixel selfie camera to the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The shift may not be just limited to resolution as we anticipate a square selfie camera feature.
