Samsung packs One UI 9 with Tap to Share, new Bixby widgets, and hidden upgrades
Samsung One UI 9 for Galaxy S26 series has been upgraded to Android 17, adding Tap to Share, new Bixby widgets, and more.
One UI 9 is starting to take shape, and the changes aren’t buried deep in menus. Folks over at SamMobile had a look at the latest One UI 9 test builds, showing focus on faster interactions, better hardware use, and fewer dependency gaps.
Tap to Share
The standout here is Tap to Share. It lives inside Quick Share, but it changes how you initiate transfers. Instead of hunting for devices, you just tap your phone against another, and it’s done.
On the Galaxy S26 series, this works more reliably because Samsung is using dual NFC placement. There’s an antenna on the back, where you expect it, and another on the top edge.
Bixby widgets
New home screen widgets let you jump straight into commands. The smaller ones give you instant access to voice and keyboard input. The larger 4 by 2 widget adds a full text bar with a mic button right beside it.
A lot of users avoid voice assistants in public or busy environments. This fixes that. You can type a command instantly without opening the app or triggering voice detection.
Accessibility tweaks
Key accessibility features are no longer locked behind a separate download. Select to Speak and Text Spotlight are now built directly into the One UI 9 settings. Previously, you had to install Google’s Accessibility Suite to get this.
Support hub inside Settings
There’s also a new Warranty and Care section in device settings. It pulls together warranty info, repair status, diagnostics, and remote support tools in one place. Bixby ties into this too, so you can ask for help instead of digging through menus.
User interface tweaks
Quick Panel controls, like brightness and volume sliders, are now noticeably larger than before. Samsung is optimizing for easier touch targeting, especially on bigger displays.
Well, One UI 9 is still under active development, but the timeline is already clear. Samsung is expected to introduce it alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in July 2026.

Users of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 in supported regions can join the beta through the Samsung Members app. Open the app and look for the One UI 9 Watch beta program. Follow the instructions to register.
After enrollment, connect your watch to your phone. Then open the Galaxy Wearable app, go to the software update section, and check for the new beta update.
Samsung may bring back its Galaxy Edge series with the Galaxy S27 Edge. The company launched the Galaxy S25 Edge in 2025 but reportedly canceled the Galaxy S26 Edge. Now, a new report says Samsung could launch another Edge phone in 2027 with a thin design, a small display, and a good-sized battery.
According to tipster Kro, the Galaxy S27 Edge could have a 5.8-inch display and a battery of around 4,300mAh. The phone could be just over 4mm thick. This would make it much thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge, which was 5.8mm thick. The thin design could be the phone’s biggest feature.
Samsung may use new battery technology to fit a 4,300mAh battery inside such a thin phone. One possibility is silicon-carbon battery technology, which can help provide more battery capacity in less space.
The Galaxy S27 Edge could reportedly launch around mid-2027. It may not launch with the regular Galaxy S27 phones, which are expected earlier in the year.
There is no confirmed information about the phone’s cameras or other features yet. Its processor is also unknown. Samsung could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 or Exynos 2700 chip.
The Galaxy S25 Edge reportedly did not sell very well, which may have led Samsung to cancel the Galaxy S26 Edge. However, Samsung could still see demand for very thin phones. For now, the Galaxy S27 Edge is only a rumor. More information could appear before its possible 2027 launch.
