Galaxy Z Fold 7’s slim hinge is so subtle, you may think it’s not a foldable phone
Samsung’s foldable lineup is about to witness a much-needed innovation upgrade this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is gearing up to unlock Ultra experiences, and a new leak reveals a slim hinge adoption, freeing it from a foldable appearance.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 is said to be adopting a slim hinge, turning it look like a bar-type phone from the front. The leaker points to an “extremely slim” hinge in the next Fold model, which will greatly revamp the appearance from the front.
Hinge is a key component in a foldable smartphone that helps the entire folding and unfolding mechanism. Over the years, Samsung has made gradual progress in terms of the hinge, benefiting the foldable smartphone segment.
The adoption of the waterdrop hinge was a noteworthy upgrade in the past. It has significantly reduced the gap left in between the screen hinge area. Now, the next resort is to refine the hinge component to further elevate the cover screen.
Samsung is long rumored to be testing a more refined hinge material for foldables. It looks like the Fold7 is becoming the first to debut an upgraded hinge. The backplate is also said to be made of titanium for more durability and weight reduction.

With a slim hinge, the phone’s frame won’t ruin the cover screen visibility due to thickness. The screen panel may have even fewer bezels, nearing the side frame, matching the look of Samsung’s Galaxy S series smartphones.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is also getting a slightly larger cover screen than its predecessor. The next Fold would feature a 6.49-inch OLED panel for the cover display, while the main screen will offer access to a huge 8-inch OLED panel when unfolded.
Samsung is expected to reveal the new foldable phones next month. An Unpacked event is likely to be held in early July in New York, USA. The company may also debut its first FE-branded affordable Flip phone to reach more people.

Galaxy S26 FE benchmark: What do the scores reveal?
Geekbench listing shows the Galaxy S26 FE (SM-S741B) is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chipset. It scored 2,104 in the Geekbench 6 single-core test, 7,148 in the multi-core test, and 22,100 in the Vulkan GPU benchmark.
The listing also confirms Android 17, 8GB RAM, and the Xclipse 950 GPU.
A pair of Geekbench entries for Samsung’s SM-S741B, widely believed to be the Galaxy S26 FE, have surfaced online.
The CPU benchmark reveals:
- Single-core score: 2,104
- Multi-core score: 7,148
The listing also confirms:
- Exynos 2500 (s5e9955)
- Android 17
- Around 8GB RAM (6.83GB detected)
- 10-core CPU configuration
The CPU consists of four clusters:
- 2 cores at 1.80GHz
- 5 cores at 2.36GHz
- 2 cores at 2.75GHz
- 1 prime core at 3.30GHz
What GPU does the Galaxy S26 FE use?
The second Geekbench entry focuses on graphics performance.
The Galaxy S26 FE achieved a Vulkan score of 22,100, while confirming the presence of Samsung’s Xclipse 950 GPU, which is integrated into the Exynos 2500 chipset.
This is the same GPU architecture expected to power one of Samsung’s most recent flagship Exynos platforms, bringing hardware-accelerated ray tracing and modern graphics capabilities to the Fan Edition lineup.

How fast is the Galaxy S26 FE expected to be?
Based on these early Geekbench numbers, the Galaxy S26 FE should deliver a noticeable performance upgrade over previous FE models.
A 2,104 single-core score suggests improved everyday responsiveness, while the 7,148 multi-core result indicates stronger sustained performance for multitasking, gaming, and demanding applications.
Meanwhile, the 22,100 Vulkan score points to healthy graphics performance that should comfortably handle modern Android games and Galaxy AI features.
As always, benchmark results represent pre-release hardware and software. Samsung could further optimize performance before the phone reaches consumers.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold8 takes direct aim at Apple’s iPhone Fold
Samsung is no longer waiting for Apple to define the next chapter of foldable phones. It is moving first. In recently shared teaser videos, Samsung showed a long chocolate bar being broken into a shorter, wider shape.
The message is clear: the Galaxy Z Fold8 series is getting a big design change. For the first time, Samsung is releasing two different foldables at once, one built to take on Apple’s upcoming foldable.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 comes with a new “passport-style” form factor. The new foldable is shorter and wider than previous Folds, with a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display that uses a near 4:3 aspect ratio. More like a small tablet when open, good for watching videos and multitasking. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is keeping the tall, narrow design but adds premium specs. Samsung is now offering a choice: the new wider shape for broader appeal, and the traditional Fold for existing fans.
This wider model looks very similar to Apple’s first foldable, which is expected to have close dimensions and a similar screen ratio. Samsung wants to set the standard before Apple enters the market and shapes what people expect from a foldable phone.
The reason is clear. Foldable sales are growing, but buyers are shifting toward more expensive models. Average prices are going up, and high-end phones now make up a larger part of the market. Samsung needs to protect its lead as Apple brings its strong ecosystem and brand power into the category.
The Fold8 series is expected to start around $2,200, with the Ultra models going even higher. Apple’s foldable will likely cost about the same. Both companies are counting on premium buyers to pay more for the new design, even as parts get more expensive.
Samsung’s two-model plan is a smart move. It gives people more choices and directly challenges Apple’s expected design. But real-world performance still matters. Hinge quality, software, and everyday reliability have always been Samsung’s biggest tests in foldables.
One small suggestion for buyers: you should wait for hands-on reviews of the wider model. It looks good on paper, but how it feels in your pocket and in daily use will matter most. This feels like the real turning point for foldables.

Galaxy S27 Ultra could move closer to 6,000mAh battery, rumor says
Samsung has been using a 5000mAh battery in its top-tier flagship phones since the Galaxy S20 Ultra era. iPhone 17 Pro Max beat the Galaxy S26 Ultra in terms of battery capacity, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max has allegedly reached around the 5500mAh mark. Meanwhile, a new rumor suggests the Galaxy S27 Ultra is inching closer to a battery slightly smaller than 6000mAh.
The Korean tech giant had reportedly finalized a 5200mAh battery for the Galaxy S27 Ultra internally. However, Apple’s aggressive battery strategy with the iPhone 18 Pro Max may have led Samsung to revisit the battery roadmap.
Galaxy S27 Ultra battery might surpass 5000mAh ceiling
X leaker phonefuturist reports that Samsung is considering testing Samsung SDI’s 5600mAh and 5800mAh battery roadmap. The target device could be the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which must surpass the aged 5000mAh capacity in 2027.
“Samsung is reportedly re-evaluating SDI’s 5,600mAh and 5,800mAh battery roadmap after previously settling on a 5,200mAh Li-ion solution.”
The batteries in testing do not feature silicon carbon technology. Samsung is staying away from a major overhaul until the solution is tested at scale. However, lithium-ion batteries of 5600mAh and 5800mAh are allegedly under testing.
Samsung still fears the Galaxy Note 7 explosion horror. Over the previous years, the company focused on offering extended battery life by other means. However, the competition is intensifying now, and Galaxy needs bigger batteries.
