Google Chrome app will soon get transparent navigation bar

Google Chrome Transparent Navigation Bar

Google is continuously working to bring new features and refine the user interface of Android apps. As the Android 14 official launch coming near, Google Chrome begins testing a transparent navigation bar.

According to Telegram channel GoogleNews, there is a new “DrawEdgeToEdge” flag in one of the latest Chrome Canary builds. The flag’s description says “Enables the Android feature Edge-to-Edge to draw below the Nav Bar.”

Once enabled, the new Google Chrome flag turns Android’s navigation gesture bar transparent, which is one of the most requested changes by consumers. This suggests the app may soon adopt this transparent nav bar facility.

As stated in the corresponding commit on Chromium Gerrit (https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/4367532), this is a basic implementation that is not
a suite for launch but fine for a Dev demo.

The source cites that transparency only affects the home and web pages, while the settings, bookmarks, etc. are still unchanged. It is also accompanied by unintentional gesture pill overlaps on sites with bottom navigation bars, and the top bars are overlapped by the status bar by the height of the navbar.

Google Messages adds waveforms to Voice Recorder UI

Google Messages app Voice recorder ui

Google Messages is getting a new look for its voice recorder UI. The microphone icon in the text field will change to a waveform icon, which is different from the voice typing button in Gboard.

Instead of holding down the mic to record, you will now see a panel with a start/stop button and options to cancel, delete, or attach the recording. You will also see a waveform and a timer while recording, and you can play back the recording before sending it.

The voice messages preview will also show a waveform between the play/pause button and the timer, making it more noticeable than the current straight line.

These changes are not widely available yet, but some users have reported seeing them on their phones. These new changes are part of a bigger redesign that Google is working on for Messages, which includes a revamped home screen that is still in beta testing. Google might announce new features soon.

on

Google has started releasing a new Dyanamic UI for its Weather app to bring a more consistent and modern look to the weather information on Android phones. The new Google Weather UI was first spotted on the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, according to tipster Mishaal Rahman. And, in the last few days, some Pixel phone users have also reported seeing the new UI on their devices.

Interestingly, some Samsung smartphone users have also claimed to have the new UI on their phones, suggesting that the rollout is not exclusive to Google devices.

The new UI has a darker and more professional look than the previous one, and it still features the cute frog character that changes according to the weather conditions.

The new Google Weather UI is still not widely available, and it seems that Google is testing it with a small number of users before rolling it out to everyone. However, it is not clear when Google will roll out the new UI to all users, but we will keep you updated on any developments.
